He must just be ramping it up or is not running optimized apps on that machine as I do not see him in the top 100.

I dont know why its not on the top computer and to be honest, I dont care. ;) I didnt build that thing to be the best on the list, I just build it to see whats the maximum I can have as a "personal supercomputer" without having a Rack in my livingroom.

I couldn't see the whole video.
My DSL light is too slowly for DL all.

I as an supercomputer owner/user are annoyed about.

The SETI@home servers have too much unplanned server outages for continuously crunching.

My GPU cruncher (over months top_host_#2) with AMD Phenom II X4 940 BE and 4x OCed GTX260-216 had a RAC of ~ 65,000 and used ~ 700 W out of the wall plug.

~ 600 'normal' AR WUs / day. (< 10 min. / GPU)
If only 'shorties' then x4 ! (~ 2:15 min. / GPU)

It was sad to see the GPU cruncher ~ 1/4 of the uptime idle.

Every day I needed to look a few times if the UL/DL/report/request was well.

After one year continuously on - I switched off, ~ 250 W for only idle is too much.

And BOINC isn't designed for this kind of power.

BOINC certainly *is* designed for this kind of power. It's S@H alone that cannot support it. I know that your interest is only in SETI but your machine could be fully utilised if you used the facilities available within BOINC.

But as confused as Boinc gets with only seti, I can only imagine what would happen if I had to download other projects also. Sometimes during downloads my screen can't even keep up with my 2 finger typing. I only have a 4 day cache.

Some answers to the questions regarding the computer.

I got alot of questions regarding the computer and if someone really need that amount of power. The answer is really simple. If you just use it as your homecomputer... NO. Noone really need that thing, especially at home. At the End its a pure Workstation and the whole Hardware was designed for it.

It really is a nice toy and I build it to see what´s the maximum possible you can build as a high end computer. When the other 24GB RAM and the 480GTX come I will put it down in the basement, install it in the rack and will use it as a VMware ESX Server. The Tesla´s will come out and thats it. Its really a nice machine but if you dont realy use it and bring it on the maximum its just a verry expensive toy. And it really is. With the Upgrade to 48 Gigs RAM and another 1TB Colossus it will probably cost around 22.000€. Way too much just for a daily used Computer for Office, Internet and Games sometimes.

I would love to see you optimize that rig and see what the highest RAC on Seti it could achieve.
Grand assortment of hardware. You have made the kitties jealous.

I meant the BOINC client.

I had a 3 day WU cache (more wasn't possible, I needed to stay < 1.2 GB WUs on HDD. If higher BOINC go crazy and DL, DL and DL new WUs, because the estimate crunching time will be cutted the half.)

Also the no work request if 'CPUs x 2' in UL overview is unfair.
When other crunch happily new WUs, my GPU cruncher idled over days, because he didn't asked for new work because he had thousands of ULs.. they gone through - but slowly, very slowly.. or the 3 test ULs fail and I had a few hours break to the next test.

Also boinc.exe had 3 hours / day CPU time usage.
In this time a ~ 120 Cr. WU could be crunch.
So - ~ 120 RAC / day.

From the specs of the 'stderr out' in the PC overview, a C1060 is like a GTX260-'240' or 1/2 GTX295.

'-= Vyper =-' had an AMD Phenom II X4 920 and 4x GTX295.
He reached ~ 95,000 RAC, of maybe he broke as the first the 100,000 RAC wall.

I payed ~ 2,000 € for my equipment. (940 BE & 4x OCed GTX260-216) (And this only because of SETI@home!)
I guess Vyper payed ~ 800.- € more. (920 & 4x GTX295)

AFAIK, IIRC - he is waiting to the new GTX3xx series GPUs, to build the same with 4x GTX395 GPUs.

If I had the money, I did build such a computer, even for 'gaming', it's overkill, besides there are 'other things', that is can be used for, then Distibuted Computing, although, I like it

(CAD/CAM)F.i. the design of a MoBo, L.F./H.F.amplifier, RS232 to USB, etc.

I got my GTX 480 today. Right now not really much are released to the public. I will make a new video end of next week wehen I got my 48 Gig Ram and my 5580 Xeons. When everythings is up and running I will post a new Video. The new Teslas (Fermi) will come probably end of April and I will sell the "old" stuff like the Tesla´s and the Xeon 5570. If someone´s interested in any of that stuff give me a note by email: ultra.gamer.2009@gmail.com or skype: avtechgroup.

Its funny, I installed the GTX 480 - 2 hours ago and try to run 3DMark Vantage. Crashes with an error everytime. *laugh* Games like Arma 2, Crysis and BF BC2 work fine without any crashes. Even GPUZ doesnt show any Infos about the 480 right now. *hmpf* I also found a solution for the noise Problem. I just change the Case from the supermicro to a Lian Li which is the only Case out there with support for Enhanced ATX and so many Cards. Delivery Time aprox. 2 Weeks. *DAMN* Need to change the Power Sup. too, cause the 2x 1200 Watt from the Supermicro dont fint into the new Case. But anyway, I´m off to Zagreb now. for 3 days, were shootin a movie there. Greetings to everybody from Seti@Home and keep up the good work!
