Folks,

I may have been, um, something ... I think some of my posts may have been misinterpreted.

If that is the case, I apologise ...

I make no secret of my disability (mental illness) with, at this time, apparently, depression winning 9 of 10 rounds this last couple days/weeks ... I cannot always tell how bad it is, and this may have colored my posts with unintended meanings ...

I never mean disrespect to anyone, nor to "stifle" any discussion ... though that may have been inferred elsewhere ...

So, I do apologise ... and please carry on ...

Now, for those dying to know ...

I have an odd form of Autism (Asberger's Syndrome), Depression, Anxiety disorder, panic disorder, possibly agorophobia, and sometimes I cannot walk or talk ... (though the neurologist assures me I have no neurological problem ... )

If you were not dying to know ...

I still have an odd form of Autism (Asberger's Syndrome), Depression, Anxiety disorder, panic disorder, possibly agorophobia, and sometimes I cannot walk or talk ...

And no, I don't mind talking about it ... but you probably need to be real bored to want to listen to it ... as the two soldiers discussed:

"Where are we going to get water Taz?"
"Beersheba mate..."
"I reckon you would want to be pretty bloody thirsty ..."

5 points for the movie's name ...

agreed with everyone in the thread thus far. your posts are most definately useful!

and besides, if no one liked your posts, they can just screw off, because everyone is allowed to voice their opinion.

paul, you're probably the most useful man on the forum ;), keep up the good work, and your site too!

Bah! Last I checked, this here's a community. But it's not Utopia...thankfully...

Not knowing the context of the posts in question, I can't comment on that aspect, however having travelled on this BOINC journey for a while with you, I can't recollect any area where you've let us (the community) down.

Keep those creative juices flowing and maybe only take notice of comments from those that have contributed efforts that surpass those of your own. (If you can find any.)

[Edit]
FWIW, this is a post to Paul in an attempt to encourage a smile.
In the event that you disagree with my comments, save your bandwidth. :)

@Paul

Your responses to me have always been polite, clear, intelligent, and informative. Stifling a thread is not the same as ending the discussion by providing a very complete answer (even if it is a best guess as we sometimes have to make here)--You clearly do the latter and not the former.

If this is directed at my post in the thread below:

http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=5549

then you have no need to apologise Paul. Quite the contrary. We all have bad days, and my comments directed at you overstepped the line. Please accept my apologies :)

Ned

From one Paul to another.....I never seem to read your posts because I know you are going to make sense and present very logical thoughts. I always seem to read the rediculous threads....is this why I read this one?

Paul, I see no problems. Your posts and Boinc documentation are always very informative and helpful, and are a real asset to the community. As for the movie, well, my best guess would be "Sands of Beersheba"?

To try to answer all;

Ned, it was not just you.. there were a couple others in places that gave me the impression.

Depression is sneaky and couple that with autism... well, it can get ugly fast.

I thank all of you for the nice thoughts, and you did make me cry (believe me or not), which America's macho culture to the contrary is not a bad thing. My therapist is always delighted when I can show emotion (I don't do that well either). Anyway, I was not sure, so I posted this original thought that I might have been out of line in places ...

This community is important to me as it is one of the few ways I can "get out of the house" and be with people ... so I thank you all for your kindness and good wishes ...

I do also note that my site is catching on a little be as my main page counter is over 13,000 ... so, again it is nice to be needed and useful.

Well, I am still scheduled for a trip back east this comming week so, maybe I need the vacation pretty badly ... :)

Though my wife asked me last night to shut off all my computers! Talk about incentive to not leave the house ... :)

I wanted to personnally thank you for your most informative posts. I have not read any of your posts that seemed offensive in any way. Your documentation has also been very beneficial to me and many others. Thank you again, and don't turn off those computers. :-)

Remember one thing Paul, you have opened the door for many of us and turned on the light for us to help us through this maze called boinc. Could not have done it with out your knowledge base you have created and your humor. We are all behind you.....Norman

Like I said, autism is never knowing you should say you are sorry ... :)

I think I will have to shut them down for the month ... since it is not about credit ... :)

And I am haivng some weirdness going on too ....

Pascal,

No need to call me "Mr.", as a SCPO I used to work for a living ... then I joined federal civil service ... :)

At any rate ... the movie was "The Lighthorseman" ... one of my favorites ...

the other good lines were...

"...it is almost miraculous, we only lost 30 blokes."
"Not if you are one of them it isn't."

Well, I will be here ... I am only going to Conneticut ... not the moon ... though there will not be any web site updates till I get back ... My game plan is to read, think, and get some more of my lessons converted to HTML that is tolerable ... I will likely be adding to the site files so that when I get home I can update a bunch of things at once. Assuming my disability lets me ...

As I said, since I cannot do what I want, I do what I can ... The rest of the time I laugh at myself as I stagger around ... it really does look funny ... :)

Hi paul,

Psst...Byron,

They borrowed that song from Monty Python's "Life of Brian".

@ Paul:

Paul, everything I was mustering to say has already been said by others here. So, I won't bore you with "re-runs". All I will say is ditto from me. You are the man, Paul. No one could take your place. I appreciate reading your posts and going to your site when I need help with this or that. Thank you very much, for your wisdom, sir!
