We had a spell of -10C to -15C last Winter (in some areas it was the coldest in 20 years) and there were water mains popping up out of the road everywhere due to freezing and the power companies struggled to cope with demand. Anything colder we'd have been screwed big time!

Our water mains are buried deep. Over 20 ft in some places in town.
That's not to say our water dep't isn't kept busy during winter.

The water mains here in the park I think are buried around 8' deep, I say around as I don't know the exact depth, But then this is a Desert, Short of an Ice Age, This area rarely gets snow for more than a day, Once every 3-5 years.

They will, if you don't blink regularly. The salt in tears is only enough to lower the freezing point to about -3C. Of course, you would have to suck a lot of heat out your head first to get your eyeballs down to that, but it does happen.

I see Edmonton (just a bit east of Robert) set a new record Saturday night, -46C.

That's -51F, and it is without the wind. Western Canada is stuck in a nasty bit of weather right now. Reading about those poor b*st*rds out there makes our weather a lot easier to take.

Coming home, huh? Right now it looks like you should be all clear here (just cold), but there is a lot of distance between there and here. ;)

Supposed to get snow on the 26th tho'.

Hopefully not around Southern California on the 26th, I don't know where You and JM7 are in the world, But We don't need snow yet, light rain to grow ground cover sure, Snow Oh dear GOD, Please not that, Snow equals Mudflows eventually and the recent moderate rains have done that in the mountains near Pasadena CA already.
