Hey All
Just thought I would let the board know I've been laid off from my job today. The main office told my manager to lay off 20% of the workers and the others to take a 10% paycut. what a crappy day...

It's horrible when that happens. Good luck with the search for something else -- please let us know as well once you are settled again.

It is not the end of the world, even though it feels that way right now.

Good luck with finding a new job.

Ouch... been there, wrecked that......

My first ever job lasted over 26 years -- not counting my part-time job where I worked about 8 hours per week on Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings.

When I got laid off, I went online and beat the cr*p out of a bunch of monsters in an RPG just to vent some emotional issues. Hey, it's better than going up in a clock tower ...

Needless to say my interviewing skills were non-existent when I became a line-item that had to be cut from the DoE budget.

However, now I make about twice what I was making then.

Hope you find your own bonanza too.

I know which I wouldn't take, The Newspaper job as I can't stand the smell of newsprint(ink) anymore as I used to deliver newspapers before I was 18.

Oh and Congrats to the OP on landing the job.

What no one realizes is that job hunting is essentially a direct-mail campaign, and direct mail marketers plan on a response rate of maybe 1 in 200.

Based on that standard, two callbacks out of 25 resumes is phenomenally good.

... and there are a million reasons that you might not get a callback right away (or at all) that have nothing to do with you.

Most people send out 25 resumes and get depressed when they aren't instantly hired. My experience is that you can easily get 250 resumes out per week, and keep doing it until you get a job.

If you measure by direct mail standards, and get more than 0.5% response, then you'll feel very good about yourself.

Congratulations on the new job, and the astounding callback rate.

Just make certain that you don't roll the thing. They are extremely top heavy, and construction zones have some very soft areas. I have seen one get stuck and another flop onto its side.
