Just wanted to say that SETI in general is not doing it for me anymore. Good luck guys. When a PC goes a week without work will pull off SETI, 1 at a time. Wish you all well. ![]() |

Just wanted to say that SETI in general is not doing it for me anymore. Good luck, with the projects you continue with. But do think, as there is a lack of posts at the moment complaining about getting tasks, you should be asking, "What am I doing wrong?" |

Thanks for your time here Darren if you consider to leave, that would be a shame but we can't force you to stay here, the decision is yours to take my friend. If you want to try this method first then i really think that you would be able to get work properly. Sometimes the boinc client seems to get lost when you are making changes in preferences of the boinc application. What i do is that i go to http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/prefs.php?subset=global and there i set the settings that i wish to have regarding to boinc settings. For instance if you want a cache of 10 days, if you set the connect every x days parameter to the highest value and then go to your clients and press clear button and do a send receive then you'll get the new values that you just entered on the website instead and i then think that your boinc client would automatically start to dl new work or it does so the next time you do send/receive.. Don't forget about this page http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/prefs.php?subset=project where you can set different types of work assigned to different kinds of computers. For instance i have disabled all Pre Astro 5.03 work and gpu on a group of computers, the other group that i have a nvidia gpu on has the cuda/gpu tab marked and so forth to easily manage a large group of computers which kind of work should be assigned to which.. To set that group u need to go here http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/hosts_user.php on each and every host and assign them that specific location. Don't bother about the work and home etc locations and instead use them use different computer groups then you would see that you easily can manage their cues pefectly on this website alone instead of entering each individual host. Good luck with getting a work cue and don't hesitate to either PM me for further questions or so or anyone else on this forum. Many of us are quite helpfull and it is a shame if anyone decides to leave when we haven't done our utterly most to assist you. Live long and prosper. Which one of your computers has getting no WU´s? Maybe you have the wrong settings. It is always good to ask what is wrong, before you switch your computers to a different project. Please give us the chance to help you. |

Just wanted to say that SETI in general is not doing it for me anymore. WinterKnight, I am not doing anything wrong. And as a 10 year member of SETI, I do not think that is a valid or reasonable question coming from another 10 year member. But, thanks, it does go along my reason for thinking of other projects. I do love this project. I have been waiting for the few simple IF statements to send AP out to the same versions, or a few simple IF statements to send out the new crazy AP or AP 5 out to processors that can run in a reasonable time, etc. It would not be hard to have a group of processor types that get assigned work unit types. Good luck all, will keep reading about SETI. ![]() |

Darren-if you're not happy with Astropulse why not crunch regular Seti MB WU's? ![]() ![]() |

Just wanted to say that SETI in general is not doing it for me anymore. If you took exception to Winterknight's comments, maybe you didn't quite catch what he was saying..... There are very few complaints right now from people having trouble keeping busy. If you are having trouble running out of work, then we'd like to figure out why your machines are different than mine, or Winterknight's, or any other that has no trouble staying full. On AP vs. AP 5 vs MB, if you are running standard applications, I don't see how this would happen. If you're running optimized applications, then it is possible to get work and give it to the wrong application through APP_INFO.XML. While we're on the subject: you're crunching several projects. Depending on resource shares, BOINC may stop downloading SETI and work exclusively on other projects. That isn't running out of work, it is honoring your resource share. If you're actively crunching seven projects on one machine, it's actually likely. |

Darren-if you're not happy with Astropulse why not crunch regular Seti MB WU's? My two bits: 1) I run just MB and it is obvious that the downloaders can't seem to keep up with the load. See this thread to understand some of there reasons. 2) I moved my default cache setting to ten days, zero connect interval, and only connect from 12 am to 9 am each day (Berkeley time). My small farm seems to run better now and is tolerant to a temporary lack of downloads (at least in the past two weeks). I gave up the small cache setting for now, which seemed to be better for the project, but gave more unreliable boinc operations when seti hiccuped. 3) (Can't resist) The AP and the CUDA roll outs were not very user friendly and seems to have pXssed off a lot of regular volunteers. I don't understand why it was done in that fashion, but it was and we live with it. So, Darren, I hope you don't vote with your feet quite yet and, instead, you add your voice to the loyal opposition on these boards in the future to help seti improve. You have given so much thus far, I/we would be saddened to see you go. |

Just wanted to say that SETI in general is not doing it for me anymore. Apologies for not replying earlier, but decided to get some sun in Puerto de La Cruz. To be honest I did not look at your start date, (but do wonder about that date). My thoughts at that any long term member would check the obvious places, server status, cricket graphs and NC board first. Especially as the Panic thread wasn't even on page one. As my computers were not suffering and none of the above were not negative I made the only logical conclusion that the problem was at the distant end, i.e. your end. |

There are quite a few of us with an April 99 date. There was some glitch when they converted all the info after Classic ceased. My own real start date was June 11, 1999, but you can see on the left what show... C Join Team MacNN |

Start dates are not necessarily an indicator of the user knowledge about the system. Many are/were set it and forget it types. I never visited the forums during the Classic-Seti days and I only accidentally discovered and became actively involved early in Boinc development. Others have completely disappeared for years before rediscovering Seti. Almost every day we see original Classic user rejoin our community after some almost forgotten memory brings them back to the project. |

Just wanted to say that SETI in general is not doing it for me anymore. Ive not acquired as much SETI fogey time having joined March 28, 2003 - BUT even with the near one week outage we had with classic I've never run out of work, and I only do SETI and no one else. With BOINK I have a different problem - TOO MUCH WORK I don't want - even though my preferences for my 1 processor machines is set for NO AP (I keep getting them). Personally I think AP in all it's varieties should be restricted to machines with 2 or more processors. Stick around - the science is not static - and the berkeley communications for BOINK are better than they were for Classic. AND the forums while not as basic as in Classic are a lot more informative. The science being done today is more demanding thsn that done in classic, some processing times may take longer, some get thrown away RIGHT AWAY - and in my cache - that's the luck of the draw. Rather than quit - this might be a time to think about a donation to keep Aricibo alive and scanning. - MORE SCANS - MORE WORK - MORE CHANCES TO FIND E.T. ![]() ![]() Classic WU= 7,237 Classic Hours= 42,079 |

Seconded. Once SETI classic ended I didn't think about SETI again until last fall. Regards, |

Just wanted to say that SETI in general is not doing it for me anymore. On my single-processor AMD machine I run only Astropulse, not Multibeam. I don't care much about credits, it just seems that the optimized AP apps. give the best "boost" to that particular CPU. ... and I don't care if work unit takes an hour, or four days. |

My own real start date was June 11, 1999, but you can see on the left what show... Count me in as one of those who got a screwed up converion date. Where the heck did March 07, 2000 come from.... my actual date was prior to that, and I sent messages at the time to have it corrected during the "big changeover period", and blech...It didn't get fixed during the confusion, so I just let it go. I remember there was much anxiety at the time over everything. But as you can tell, it's been 10 years, and I STILL HAVEN'T GOTTEN OVER IT EMOTIONALLY !!!!! LOL !!!! (grabs blanket and firmly pops thumb in mouth) Now I feel better... :) |
