I know that this has already been posted and I have read all the posts and solutions but I can't get it to work. It does not affect me that much since I'm assigned to other projects as well. I read something about this issue being fixed in an internal Alpha. When will this version be ready for release? And by the way. I think that BOINC should add an update-client so BOINC can just fetch an update, install it and restart as soon as it's available. This way even small updates like this one could be pushed out fast, often and efficiently. |

There is no estimated release date for the new version of BOINC. An auto-update feature will conflict with those educational facilities and corporations that do not like software to auto-update themselves before they've had a chance to test it on their own networks first |

I think it's strange that it's not seen as a priority to fix problems. The return of results to SETI will probably suffer in the meantime. You are probably right about educational facilities and corporations. But still, I think it's a neat idea. As it is now, I think BOINC doesn't even tells you that there is an update available. And I just have to ask. How on earth can you have such insane stats? Do you have an entire park of machines crunching WUs for you? :S |

I think it's strange that it's not seen as a priority to fix problems. The return of results to SETI will probably suffer in the meantime. BOINC 6.4.5 was released complete with all the bugs in it. It was hardly tested. The developers do not want to repeat that with the new version, which has quite a lot of problems still in Alpha. We're up to 6.6.10 by now and still it's not showing more stable than before. Since there are no pressing deadlines on Seti needing to come up with results on the searches, it won't suffer waiting for a newer BOINC version to appear. CUDA itself is also still in Beta, it itself has only just seen stability in the application. There's really nothing to panic about. As it is now, I think BOINC doesn't even tells you that there is an update available. It will tell you that a new update is available, when a new recommended version is released. A message will show in another color in your Messages. |

I think it's strange that it's not seen as a priority to fix problems. The return of results to SETI will probably suffer in the meantime. I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion that its not a priority, but I can say that stability is top priority. They will not release a new version until it is deemed stable enough. SETI has enough of their own server problems to worry about people returning results quickly with the CUDA app. You are probably right about educational facilities and corporations. As Jord said, it actually lets you know when there's a new version, colored in red, in your Messages tab. I actually quite agree that an auto-update feature would be nice. My suggestion to the developers was to create the auto-update but leave it disabled by default so as to not upset the corporations and educational sectors. Let the home users or anyone else who want the auto-update feature turn it on themselves. And I just have to ask.
