Over here in the other London, I think we always have snow. Here is a picture I took on Christmas eve, of a City snowplow stuck in front of my house. It took the driver and a bunch of my neighbours about 2 hours to get it moving again. Whatever happened to global warming? Most Canadians are secretly in favour of it, you know. |

Bernie and Andy, If we were equipped for it then yeah, sure. Fact is though that we don't have an infrastructure that copes with snow as it so seldom happens here. We've had 2 power cuts here this afternoon, that's only going to get worse as the snow is still coming down thick & fast. I have never seen snowfall where I live, yet right now the road at the front of my house is covered. On the TV now they are warning of "worse to come" this afternoon. Joy! Luckily for us we live in a maritime climate so it won't be long before the warmer weather comes back (hopefully!) |

Bernie and Andy, If we could cope it wouldn't be so bad. To be fair I have never seen it this bad in London, and it was mostly overnight, the worst time, as the roads are badly affected. Luckily these days I can do some work from home, but I really should be in London tomorrow. We will see. And yes it is STILL snowing!! Bernie |

Thanks. I think it's fair to say that today's snow crippled a very large part of the UK. 1 in 5 never reported for work by all accounts (media figures, so maybe over done!) I have just got back on after a 3 hour power outage. Needless to say the house is bitterly cold now, heating working overtime to catch up. Oh...and the snow is STILL coming down! I think tomorrow is going to be another bad day. |

It's a very similar scene here John. The snow is still coming down thick and fast. I just went for a walk around the block to take some photos and see what is going on. Where there are overhead lines they are hanging very low with the weight of all the snow on them. We had rain forecast for tonight, in a way I hope it happens to help thaw the snow otherwise life could become pretty uncomfortable for some by the end of the week as another batch of snow is expected Thursday. |

Thanks Joker, I think we were all hoping for that, but the snow continued to fall and the temperatures continued to drop. Suspect we will see a thaw today and tomorrow though all being well. I won't be going far today in the car because the roads are blocked and we're not equipped with 4WDs here with chunky tyres so our cars don't like it :D |

4WD won't help much if at all, You really need snow chains on Your tires which would limit Your speed to about 35mph(56kph) and of course snow plowed roads. Good Luck and Be careful of Black Ice. Savoir-Faire is everywhere! The T1 Trust, T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, America's First HST |

Needless to say no one in the UK has snow chains :D The road near me is blocked now anyway as someone decided (stupidly) that they needed to get out and have slid their car sideways blocking the road. |
