Hello. I'm new here. I'll think of things to say after I read some of the threads and get a feel for what goes on in here.

Yes welcome again, and those kitty pictures were great. Mayhem's face looks like our cat Fosdick but Fosdick is speckled. Once again Welcome.

Thank you all for the welcomes. As for the 50/50, that might be true if all of the main threads are included, like the ones where people complain about not getting their credits fast enough, etc. I really don't care much about the credits, and I don't understand much about the science details, so I like this "Cafe SETI" main thread the best. I think I'll hang around here for a while. I've read posts that seem to be from nice, friendly, intelligent people. Most forums I've seen are about 1% useful and 99% snarky flaming nastiness. This seems noticeably different. I've only been here a couple of days, but so far I like it. I've looked at a few profiles, and people here seem to be a little older than your average forum posters. Maybe that's part of the reason why it seems nicer here. I'm 51, male, living in Los Angeles, and I spend way too much time on a computer.

So how do I put an avatar under my name, to the left of the posts? If I go into my account, I can post an image, but it just stays there in the account info.

Go to your 'your account' page....
Click on 'community preferences'...
Under 'message-board identity', click on the dot for 'use this uploaded avatar'...and then click browse to find the avatar pic you want to use on your computer....it must be jpg or png, 4kb or less in size, and 100 x 100 pixels maximum.
You can also add text in a box below that for your siqnature to appear below all of your posts....

Then make sure you scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the 'update' button to save your changes.

If there is a problem with what you are trying to save, you should get some messages when you try to update telling you what is wrong.

If you can't get it to work, ask again and somebody will try to help you.

I tried out the avatar instructions, and I get it now. Thanks. I will wait a couple of days until I get my main computer back from the repair shop. It has Photoshop, then I will make a 100 x 100 4KB avatar.

Yeah, they just happened to win their division. The Angels did too. I like the Angels as much as I dislike the Dodgers so I'm hoping for a SoCal world series.

Hi.
Can someone give me some tips?
I'm moving and will be shutting down for a while. What's the best way to do that but allow the current job to complete first?
I'm "virtually" ignorant.
Thanks,
Stephan

It depends on how long you’re move will take.

You have Win XP, so just shutting down your computer normally will keep things safe until you boot up again.

You work units time out on Oct 22, so, it depends on you’re schedule.

One thing you should do is select “no new tasks” under the BOINC Manager ‘Projects’ tab.

And welcome to Seti! :)
