Message 807053 - Posted: 11 Sep 2008, 18:28:58 UTC - in response to Message 806931.

I would go for a dark burnt orange metallic......with some black accents, like some pinstripes....

Many years ago, I had a '72 Buick Skylark that I did in a '60s Corvette orange, and when they mixed it up at the paint shop, I had them throw an extra shot of the gold flake into it......

I did it with old fashioned lacquer......none of the newfangled urethane and such that they are using nowadays.....

Primer.....a couple of thin coats....wet sand by hand.....a couple of coats of orange, hand wetsand....a couple of more coats of orange...hand wetsand again...lay the pinstripe out on the fenders....paint the pinstripe.....peel the masking tape off......more hand wetsanding........top with clear lacquer.....more hand wetsanding.....a couple more coats of clear.......

Let harden and buff...........simple, right? Hey, I was kid then, and had nothing but time.

It took about a month.......but the result was quite striking.......

You wouldn't happen to have any pics of that Buick??

Oh, I wish.......I think I have an old B&W photo somewhere.......but of course, that was loooooooooong before digital cams.........and I don't have a scanner at present....even if I had that old photo at my fingertips............

It actually looked great in black and white........the contrast was very good.

You'll just have to trust me........after a month of sanding and misting with lacquer, the results were very good.......

But you have to devote a lot of time and effort to it.........
But not sure if SGIC wants to spend that much time on it.

Who says you need a scanner? Digital cameras can take fine pictures of printed pictures too I'd guess.

It's white right now ... add some cow spots to it. Cow cars are very nice and udderly classy.

hey everyone
Just thought i would ask your guys/gals opinions on this. Would you rather see a stock bumper on it (current one), European bumper or no bumpers at all

Euro bumpers because they streamline the car and with the right ones they don't look just hung on like the stockers. Match them to your paint job too.

Depends...do you plan on blinging the wheels? Do you want to make it like a strret racer? If you want to keep the stock look, but have some power under the hood, that's allright. Real street sleepers are fun.
