The terror of a king is like the growling of a lion; whoever provokes him to anger forfeits his life.

“Unfortunately, a lot of the churches and synagogues are not really places of godliness. They are places of politics, places of social action, places of fellowship, where people come together to meet each other. But in many respects, spirituality is lacking.”

I don't think God is very happy 'bout that... ;)

Qur'an 22:49-51
Say: O men! I am (sent) to you only to give a Clear Warning:
Those who believe and work righteousness, for them is forgiveness and a sustenance most generous.
But those who strive against Our Signs, to frustrate them,- they will be Companions of the Fire.

Better check yer'self... ;)

Hard to tell who god favours more these days.

Dubya has been faithful but Obama is intelligent.

Kidding, I know which one she favours.

I am, therefore I think.

Message 773357 - Posted: 25 Jun 2008, 14:56:02 UTC

I offer a few thoughts to this thread which I hope are relevant:

It strikes me as the height of arrogance and conceit for anyone to presume to know anything at all about God, or presume to speak for God, or to believe God is somehow on your side.

Thinking, meditating, and praying are things I do alone. If I do them with one or more other people then they become political acts.

I can't imagine anything more horrifying than having to live forever, whether in heaven where the climate may be nice, hell where the company would be far more interesting, or in some endless chain of rebirths. I prefer to accept my own mortality and come to terms with it as best I can. There was an eternity of time before I was born, and there will be an eternity after I die. I see no reason to think one will be any different than the other, except perhaps for my own wishful thinking.

Children eventually give up their imaginary friends because the relationships are so one-sided.

James 1:22-25
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

GOD, is quite capable of speaking for Himself... ;)

Neither do I... and neither does anyone else... ;)

God may or may not be capable of speaking for him/her/itself, may or may not have any reason to, and may or may not exist in any way we can make sense of. I do know God has never spoken to me. I've been from one end of this galaxy to the other and I've seen a lot of strange stuff, but I've never seen anything remotely approaching the miraculous except the simple, bare fact of my own existence. Everything that follows from that seems to be explainable.

Psalms 23
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
