Message 762400 - Posted: 3 Jun 2008, 12:47:07 UTC - in response to Message 762388.

I can't quite work out whether this thread is in support of kitties in general or Mark in particular. Personally I don't think it matters at all whether we have 1 kitty thread or 10, if people are not interested then they don't have to read them. There are a number of threads that I am not interested in reading or responding to, but it doesn't bother me that they are there.

Anyway, why has Mark seemingly been picked on? No one complains about the proliferation of the "Fun with...." threads and they are decidedly more irritating

In support of both, I think. This is one type of thread that is utterly harmless and guaranteed to give all but the died-in-the-wool cat hater some genuine amusement.

If someone is going to moan about the kitties then perhaps we need a thread about threads - oh yes, we've got several already.

My condolences to your sister and her kitty.....

My kitties are strictly indoors.......so they do not have to face any of the risks that exist in nature.....

But when outdoors, they are at risk from nature's other predators....a kitty or two has been known to be taken off by a hawk or even a rare owl attack.

It's sad, but I hope sometime soon she can adopt a new kitty.

We were up in Scotland last weekend and met these two in the little village of Deanston (about a mile away from Doune Castle where large parts of Monty Python and the Holy Grail were filmed) We met these two while there. The black one very friendly, the lack and white very suspicious!

Message 763178 - Posted: 5 Jun 2008, 15:06:16 UTC

Back in 1970 I used to be a "milk boy" helping my dad on his round. One weekend, we delivered to a customer in Hackney, East London as he was going out his front door. In his arms were 2 kittens which he was going to drown. As a 14 year old at the time & an animal lover (still am to this day), I begged him to give them to me. He did so & then I had to persuade my dad to let me keep them.

Dad said ok but that I would have to persuade mum. This I did & right up to the time mum died in 1997, several descendents of those kitties were always in our home - at one time, we had a dozen. I only have a couple of b/w photos on my rig, but I'm sure I have some colour slides somewhere. Will locate them, scan & post.

As soon as I've renovated the house, Andrea will have some kitties as she's always had them while growing up.

Keep those kitties rollin' Mark.

You should have reported him to the RSPCA as well. I have reported dozens of people to them over the years for various acts of animal cruelty. None of them got as far as a prosecution in court, but in virtually all cases the people concerned were given an official warning on their behaviour. Shall we just say that if any of them applied to an animal charity to adopt an animal they would be turned away :-)

And even if you were not in a position to take the poor kitties into your own home, you could offer to take them and deliver them to a shelter yourself, where they would have a chance of ending up in a loving home.......
I hope the shelter situation in the UK is as well established as that here in the US.....
Is there a Petfinder.com website that covers the UK? It is a wonderful place to find a new pet friend here in the US.....

I'd be in favor of an anti-coyote thread.

A number of years ago, it was a quiet summer evening, and the back door was wide open.

I was sitting on my sofa, and I heard sounds of something travelling at high speed through the bushes.

The next thing I see is Molly coming through the door from the kitchen to the living room with a coyote in hot pursuit. I bellowed at it, and it decided that whatever lived in that "cave" was big and noisy, and that it wasn't that hungry.

... and left.

Molly is now a semi-inside cat -- certainly from before dusk until morning.

Agreed Chris, but back then, my parents brought us up very strict, so was very innocent & naive until my late teens. Now, I wouldn't hesitate. Any so called human being harming a defenceless animal says a lot about that person's mind.

Personally, I like dishing out to them what they dish out to the animal. God knows how I managed to steer clear of a criminal record!

I took a litter of kittens to the SPCA once... I'll never do it again because all they did was 'put them to sleep'... ;)

The Blue Cross Code says they will never put down a healthy animal, which is why I support them. I use the RSPCA to report cruelty.

My sister works for the RSPCA. She adopted the cutest puppy the other day. It had a hernia and was abandoned in a plastic bag hanging off an old bike. It's the cutest little thing..you can hold it in one hand.

To be fair there, his defence would be he only SAID he was going to do that, he wasn't actually caught in the act. I haven't yet had to use physical violence against anyone abusing an animal, but if I found someone kicking a cat or dog to death I wouldn't hestitate, however big they were. I'll stop there as I could go on. It's my achilles heel which I have no intention of apologising for.

Same here. I absolutely hate animal & women bashers!
