You asked the same question earlier and got an answer to it already from JM7, as posted here: John McLeod VII wrote: That symbol means that the BOINC Manager cannot communicate with the BOINC Daemon. The Daemon actually does the work. If BOINC.exe is actually running, then you are actually doing work, even if you cannot see what or control anything. Too see what is running, you can open Task Manager. You can do this either by right clicking on the task bar at the (usually) bottom of the screen, or you can hit CTRL-ALT-DEL. You should see BOINC.exe and the executable for whatever task is running among a long list of other things. |

I was seeing the red dot also. The boinc manager would come on with the red dot and then shut down and disappear from the system tray. I tried messing with the fire wall with no luck. I ended up removing boinc from my computer and reinstalling it. It was sort of freaky. After I reinstalled it my work was still there and the optimized client and application were still installed. I installed a new anti virus earlier today that may have weirded things out. |

I was seeing the red dot also. The uninstall only removes the BOINC software. It leaves everything else including data, and project applications. BOINC WIKI |
