It's the calm before the storm here. Big, big, infact huge storms forecast for Monday. 80MPH winds with 100MPH gusts expected here in the SW. Bad news if you are a roof or a tree!

This is a bit sensationalist (and factually inaccurate as we don't get Hurricanes in the UK, just Hurricane force winds).

WINDS of up to 100mph will batter Britain in “the worst storm of the century”, experts warned yesterday.

The hurricane-force storm – predicted for Monday – seems certain to cause stuctural damage to property. Trees are expected to be toppled across huge swathes of the country and travel faces severe disruption.

Motorists are already being advised not to make journeys while the country is at the mercy of the “rare” weather.

Atmospheric pressure is expected to plummet to its lowest level since 1884 and Force 12 winds will make driving a nightmare.

Weather experts Meteogroup said the drop in low pressure is so extreme that it is known as a “bomb” – a fall of more than 24 millibars in 24 hours – and happens only a handful of times a year.

The worst of the storm is expected to hit the west of the country. Devon and Cornwall will bear the brunt but all areas will be affected.

Independent forecasters Met-check warned that residents of the South-west and North-west are directly in the path of the “worst storm to hit Britain this winter” and should brace themselves 80mph winds gusting to 100mph.

A Metcheck spokesman said: “Monday is looking worrying. If it hits in the South-east as well it could be the worst storm this century. Normally we’d expect to see about 960 millibars of central pressure, but this one is about 930 so the storm will be much more intense.

“We would definitely advise against travelling on Monday. It’s going to be wet and wild across the country, and very nasty. You certainly don’t want to take a boat out in this weather or get on the roads.” Residents of coastal areas should also expect the sea to turn into a white-topped maelstrom carved up by huge waves.
