Was a line haul trucker for 20 years but got tired of the road so I now work for the city. Home every night in my own bed.

Systems Architect at a bank.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ...

My truck driving career started with swift and ended with swift in less than six months... A bed was all I had... It was the no time for personal hygiene that turned me off... And I'm quite sure that nobody in the industry cares enough to listen to my idea for an onboard water supply system... ;)

(I wasn't very fond of being treated like a piece of dirt either.)

Jeffrey, I do. I have been envolved in the trucking industry. One thing that always troubled me, is the fact that the companies don't provide the drivers with daily breaks to perform daily hygiene. Should be madatory in my view.

My trucking days were from 1978-1986 for IML Freight averaging 3 trips a month from the midwest to the west coast and back. I didn't know it then, but that company was apparently way ahead of the times. Each truck was equipped with...

... a potable water system....

...a wash basin...

...and restroom facilities...

The real problem is the tight scheduling... A driver can take all the breaks they want, at any time they want, and at any place they want... Unfortunately, one 15 minute pee break in an eleven hour run will make you 15 minutes late, and they don't like it when you're late...

Of course, there was plenty of break time at your destination... Which usually consisted of a gravel parking lot equipped with a guard shack and a porta potty... Life didn't get much 'greener' than that... ;)

No problem Henri. Study hard. Be persistant. Let nothing stand in the way of your dreams and goals. If you do these things, someday you will be a leader in your field of choice.
