Actor Heath Ledger dead at 28
Published: Jan. 22, 2008 at 5:21 PM

NEW YORK , Jan. 22 (UPI) -- Australian film actor Heath Ledger was reportedly found dead in a New York apartment Tuesday.

He was 28 years old.

Police told The New York Times they did not suspect foul play and said they found pills near Ledger's body.

Ledger starred in the movies "Monster's Ball," "The Patriot," "A Knight's Tale," "10 Things I Hate About You" and "Ned Kelly," but his major breakthrough was in the 2005 film "Brokeback Mountain," for which he earned an Oscar nomination.

He can be seen in the current release "I'm Not There" and his portrayal of the Joker in the upcoming "Batman" movie, "The Dark Knight," has been generating buzz on fan Web sites for months.

Ledger is also known for his high-profile, former relationships with actresses Naomi Watts and Michelle Williams, with whom he has a 2-year-old daughter, Matilda Rose.

Toxicology tests, of course, wouldn't be back yet but reports say he had pills scattered all around his body.

This is tragic...they say his performance in the early filming of the new Batman movie was phenomenal.

And what does Mary Kate Olsen have to say about this?

She was on location and had nothing to do with his death. He had stated earlier on a show that he was having a hard time sleeping and Ambien did not work for him. Seems to me, he tried something stronger.

It used to be scattered rose petals. So now I must ask why he was in her apartment? Were they an item?

So let's all pay tribute to yet another drug addicted Hollywood actor who's habit finally caught up with him.

What a wonderful role model for all the little kiddies.

I find your remark distasteful. He was not a drug addict. He had no prior drug habits. I take 20mg. of ms contin, 30mg. of oxycodone, 15mg.of Valium, and 50mg. of diphenhydramine. Does that make me a drug addict? Check you're facts before replying.

Called Ambien in the US, the tablet is marketed as Stilnox Down Under and hit headlines last year when a national drug hotline fielded calls from users reporting strange side-effects.

Some 500 people described odd behaviours from walking, crashing cars, having sex and falling from balconies after popping a pill.

One patient gained 23 kilograms over seven months after unknowingly eating from the refrigerator while asleep. Another patient woke up with a paintbrush in her hand after painting the front door.

In November, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) reduced pack sizes and updated its warnings on the drug to protect people from its "worrying and potentially dangerous adverse effects".

The most serious of the newly-listed side-effects included "rage reactions, worsened insomnia, confusion, agitation, hallucinations and other forms of unwanted behaviour".

Very true wxcept Heath stated in an interview that it did not help him. I think he was prescribed something different. We will all know today after the toxology reports come in.

> true Michael - we can wait for the autopsy results [edit] in 10 Days . . .

quote: "NYPD Deputy Commissioner Paul Browne said that there were three prescription bottles found, all in Heath Ledger's name."

"Commissioner Browne wouldn't elaborate on what the pills were but said that they included sleeping pills.

"There were some still left in the bottle," he said. "They were not scattered around the apartment."
[end quote]

ps Michael - love the 'Shadow' Sir!

It really is a shame that we spend so much time and energy talking about actors and party goers after they have died for whatever reason/s than we do about the brave military service folks who may put there lives on the line every day while they serve their country.

Being a disabled veteran, I pray each morning and pray that there will be and end to the bloodshed. I pray for our injured and those killed in action. It make me sick each time I have to go to the Seattle VAMC and see 18, 19yr. olds and so on paralyzed and amputies as I was at their age. I have about a weeks stay on the Spinal Cord Ward Unit 1 west in the 28th. this Monday. Trust me they are remembered by all Americans. I will be sickened once again. Be glad you don't see it like I do.
