Tough new law targets illegal immigrants... The US Congress has been so spineless, it has now the states that have had to step up to the plate to deal with those that flagrantly violate our borders and thumb their noses at our laws, including those that enable them. Account frozen... |

The state rep is right. "I'm convinced illegal aliens will not come to Oklahoma, or any other state, if there are no jobs waiting for them." Employers like it because they can pay less, and illegal immigrants aren't going to speak up about working conditions like those that have lived here a long time might. |

They may be cheap to hire, but they're proliferating like flies. |

They may be cheap to hire, but they're proliferating like flies. Are these human beings you're talking about? |

I suspect my home town of the past 8 years (New York City) would grind to a halt if all the undocumented aliens were removed. Providing they're contributing to society I'm not sure I have an issue. I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ... |

The cold hard facts: If you make a good slave, we will give you a green card... If you cost us money or cause us problems, we will deport you... It's the 'new' american way... ;) It may not be 1984 but George Orwell sure did see the future . . . |

The cold hard facts: Not sure what constitutes a "good slave", I just exchanged my green card for naturalization papers, and am fortunate enough to be in the top 10% of earners. I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ... |

From the article... Illegal immigrants in Oklahoma fear police will use the law for roundups of anyone working and living in the state illegally. Well...then perhaps they should immediately start taking the proper actions to get legalized. What a bizarre idea. Jeff...even if they are " slaves " as you put it....they STILL wind up costing the taxpayers money. Whether you want to admit it or not. Personally...I am kinda tired of my tax money going to provide all kinds of government handouts to people who are breaking the law. From the article... Aye, sir. 'Bout time time of the local governments took things into their own hands when they seem to be ignoring most of us on the federal level. Illegals are illegals. They have no rights in this country, other than to be treated as criminals. And not to be physically abused during their deportation. fear police will use the law for roundups of anyone working and living in the state illegally. Will the EMPLOYERS be punished by the law for hiring them? Probably not... The real drain on society is the gazillion boomers who collect huge pensions and require overwhelming medical attention... And spare me the lecture of 'they earned it'... People work much harder today and get paid far less... And it's a well know fact that employers can't afford to pay decent salaries to new employees because of what I've previously mentioned... Continuing to blame the immigrants takes away the only legitimate excuse of why employers can't and don't pay a fair wage... Then again, after the imigrants are gone, maybe people will finally WAKE UP! America is fast becoming a 'retirement home'... And for the working people, that stinks... ;) It may not be 1984 but George Orwell sure did see the future . . . |

Will the EMPLOYERS be punished by the law for hiring them? Probably not... Did you even read the article Jeffrey? It doesn't stop at illegal immigrants. The law also makes it a felony for U.S. citizens to knowingly provide shelter, transportation or employment to illegal immigrants. Calm Chaos Forum...Join Calm Chaos Now |

Did you even read the article Jeffrey? No I didn't... But even so, this is America, and not everyone gets punished for crimes equally... My question still stands... I don't care what the law 'says', I want to know if the law will be 'enforced'... ;) (Do you honestly believe that some corporate guru is gonna go to jail over hiring an immigrant? I don't think so.) Did you even read the article Jeffrey? The above (bolded and made large for everyone to see) is is the only important item in your last post. You didn't read the article but go on spouting off your cliches. Unless you live in Oklahoma (which I doubt you do), then you don't know how those people think. Having spent the first 30 years of my life there, I do know how they think, and yes, they will send employers that break this law to jail over this. Calm Chaos Forum...Join Calm Chaos Now |

Did you even read the article Jeffrey? I applaud your honesty. But even so, this is America, and not everyone gets punished for crimes equally... Absolutely true! Different crimes are punished differently. Someone who violates Immigration laws and comes here illegally should be treated differently from a person who hires that person thinking their green card is not fake, or a person who purposely hires an illegal in order to pay substandard wages and save money. Even if they are under the same statute, these are all different crimes. My question still stands... I don't care what the law 'says', I want to know if the law will be 'enforced'... ;) Absolutely. I am certain plenty of illegals will be prosecuted and deported, so yes, the law will be enforced. Oh . . . did you mean someone else under the law? (Do you honestly believe that some corporate guru is gonna go to jail over hiring an immigrant? I don't think so.) Ask the former brass at ENRON (some pretty powerful corporate "gurus") if they like being in jail for illegal business practices. If their crime can be proven, they will be prosecuted. |

I think in a global economy world as we live in now, no person earns to be treated as illegal - nowhere. I'm convinced that all people who do the same work should be paid about the same wages for it, no matter what their nationality, skin color, gender or age is, Everything else is nothing else than discrimination. And an entrepreneur who pays less than standard wages to any worker no matter where they come from should be punished hard. The less money they pay the harder the punishment should be.
