Woman's History Timeline

They forgot one:

2008 - Hillary Clinton, first female President of the United States... ;)

It wont happen......

I am interested to know what is so bad about Hilary? If she became the first female president of the US that would be an amazing thing.

She's too, let's say, ambitious. And when Hillary talks, even chimpanzees know she's lying.

I can't believe that nobody has mentioned Amelia Earhart in this thread... ;)
It may not be 1984 but George Orwell sure did see the future . . .

I am going to have an opportunity to get to know Hillary Clinton well over the next few months. A very close family friend of mine is going to be one of her delegates, thus travelling with her to some events as well as representing her at the National Democratic Convention.

I've been invited to attend a few events with our friend.

Now I personally find Hillary to be a bit abrasive and evasive on some tough questions but my friend says she is incredibly friendly in more personal situations.

I'm looking forward to having these opportunities to meet her...

Last time I checked, Charley was a man. He could be considered a girly man I suppose. That might qualify him for women's history.

This document gives an overview of the concept of "intersectionality" and how the concept can be used by advocates

to address the multiple forms of oppression experienced by women. The document begins by describing that intersectionality encompasses the idea

that people can simultaneously experience oppression and privilege depending on the context of the situation. The document contends that

intersectionality is an important theoretical tool because it more accurately reflects the reality of the discrimination faced by

different women.
The document concludes by providing methodologies for utilizing intersectionality in advocating for women's human rights.

WASP

The "Flygirls" of WW II

Don't forget the ATA!

http://helena-schrader.com/womenpilots.html

2006 Poster put up in the London tube suggesting that Women working in WW2 were largley resposible for the Defeat of hitler.. showed pics of same working in munitions factorys.

All this did was produce upset as it reminded people of all those Men that died and of the Elitist hypocrisy that lay beneath their deaths. Most of them went to war in the fervent, if naive, wish to save their loved ones from oppression. One or two were bullied by 'Ladies' with white feathers to go and die in said cause (girlie men I'm sure, I hear you say). Most, at the time, would have been unaware of any other reason to go and fight.

It came down fairly Quickly as it looked rather to much like HERstory rather than HIStory both of course being relative western truths portraying themselves to be some how really "true".

I thought it an astute move to take it down so quickly as it for-grounded the propaganda for Womens issues as politicaly elitist. Now you don't want that as it might actualy alienate your political power base. ie you might tip off the ordinary Women to your real motives.

Also it undermines the usefullness of the propaganda if you tip your hand with over statment. It stops acting as a significant contextual cue. Instead it makes people think.

Didn't greer produce a book of pornography?

And Thatcher god bless her put the majority of the nations silverware in the pokets of a few white Men via the stock market. The water I drink is now owned and taxed by the French.

I know some Women who think she was a plant as part of a backlash against Feminism by a shadowy cable of western capitalists.

for Esme' - there are Many Links included for Any Research You might Prefer to Pursue . . .

Feminist Studies 101 . . . Stanford University

The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the interdisciplinary field of feminist scholarship,

which seeks to understand the creation and perpetuation of gender inequalities. After tracing the historical

emergence of feminist critiques, the course surveys contemporary feminist issues, particularly work and family,

health and sexuality, creativity and politics. Each section draws on historical analysis and pays close attention

to the variety of women's experiences. Along with the focus on the U.S., the course attempts to incorporate

international perspectives on women and feminism . . .
