My point was that too many 'christians' are putting their trust in modern day scribes and pharisees rather than in God... When you know the doctrine, it isn't very hard to spot the false doctrine... If they would only take the time to read the doctrine for themselves, God would take care of the rest... ;)

(Maybe I've just been watching too much DayStar and TBN lately.)

Cameras and microphones... Nothing 'supernatural' about that... ;)

That's why some denominations have kind of Sunday School before or after service, that people can read the Scriptures for themselves and discuss what they understood from it. :)

Maybe we have different 'interpretations' of the word THEMSELVES... ;)

I John 2:26-27
I write this to you about those who would deceive you; but the anointing which you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that any one should teach you; as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie, just as it has taught you, abide in him.

I Timothy 6:3-5
If any one teaches otherwise and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching which accords with godliness, he is puffed up with conceit, he knows nothing; he has a morbid craving for controversy and for disputes about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, base suspicions, and wrangling among men who are depraved in mind and bereft of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain.

(Odd that we don't hear too much 'end times' preaching these days.)

Ya know......practicing what ya preach gets ya that much closer to saving your soul.........
I have come much closer to my God as I have aged......
I know he will forgive me for all of my youthful sins........and they were MANY...I could tell ya stories...and some I have posted here in the forums, check my post history...may take ya awhile.....and some I would not repeat here.....and I have repented for them all.....and asked Him for His forgiveness.......
Which I now know he will grant.

Gives me much peace.

Did you ask the preacher if it was okay first? ;)

You might quit diminishing your retorts......
But yes, I have spoken directly to Him....do so every night, and now again during the day, when it is appropriate.......
He has blessed me....otherwise I would not be here......

Matthew 24:24
For false Christs and false prophets will arise and show great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.

II Peter 2:1
But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies,

Ephesians 6:11&17
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
----> And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Learn the word... ;)

"The task of interpreting the Word of God authentically has been entrusted solely to the Magisterium of the Church, that is, to the Pope and to the bishops in communion with him." Catechism of the Catholic Church

"And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit." (2 Peter 1:19-21)

Sure ... :)

You see, the question that few people ask is what makes up the bible. We did do a brief segue to talk to this issue. But, there were a lot more "Gospels" running around being published than have survived to this present day.

There are others we have as fragments, and others that may be complete but are considered heretical by organized religion.

None of whom follow the patterns of the early churches from the days immediately following Jesus' death. As I don't memorize things and am not that motivated to look it up, there is a passage in the bible where he did predict that right after his death we would start to mess things up ...

Even more problematic is the question that I am still looking for a logical answer to. And that is most churches hold that the material world is Satan's to control, which means that if he has that control; then the derivation of the bible was his to control too ... the argument that God can over-rule Satan to make sure that the "correct" word gets to us means that then God did not give over this world to Satan; in which case, all of the ills of the world cannot be blame solely on Satan.

A logical paradox ...

most churches hold that the material world is Satan's to control

Actually, most churches teach that God is in control and that satan has no power over them...

But to answer your question with the short version... After satan rebelled:
Satan was granted respite for a limited time to try and prove to God that his way was better than Gods way...
We were granted the 'freewill' and given the 'scripture' to make an informed decision of who we wanted to follow...

If you'll remember, the first covenant was on paper and that didn't work out so well... The new covenant was written in the hearts and minds of every human being... Personally, I don't need a book to know Gods word, I only use the books to show others... Those who do need the books have most likely fallen out of covenant, they can remain lost or they can repent and be saved, the choice is theirs to make...

Satan may have vowed to lead everyone astray, but God is still in control of the test... ;)

(Before you cry foul, satan was granted EVERYTHING but the kitchen sink. I'd say that was more than fair.)

SNIP.............
Personally I can celebrate the gift I have been given sitting in the bath, walking down the road, eating food, sleeping, coughing madly with a virus or in places where others do not like to congregate :o)

I know churches act as icons for us mortals but are they really that important to god?

SNIP....

Perhaps your level of spirituality is so developed that you need no further assistance to grow in that respect, but I do.

My level of spirituality is not 'so developed'...

We join in SETI because we either have 'faith' that aliens exist or because we have a 'desire to discover' what may exist beyond.

Maybe it is interest in something better that makes people special?

My interest happens to lay in whether God will deny me the right to exist for not bowing or praying to him.

Does following a religious path and following it's values or activities make someone good?

Is being spiritual the first step to being more intelligent or honest?

How much can the bible (Tora, Quran, Gita.. etc..) teach us in comparison to the absolute complexity of our lives and each other?

. A shadow of life maybe?

Just thoughts.

Pope Benedict XVI and Vatican Ambassador to the United States Archbishop Pietro Sambi greeted spectators upon arriving yesterday at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. The pope's six-day visit includes an address to the United Nations, Masses in baseball stadiums and meetings with Catholic educators and leaders of other religions. This is Benedict's first papal trip to America.
