How about the X-43 Hyper-X, a small, unpiloted vehicle intended to test an integrated scramjet engine from Mach 7 to 10.

Work I was involved in, back at the end of the 1970s, did not involve SCRAM jets but did involve RAM jets. The latter machines flew at between Mach 4.5 and 5.5 as a high altitude intectptor, able to knock out aircraft at up to 135,000 feet!

Interesting!

The Blackbird SR71 had a similar cruising envelope, based on a design developed in the late 1950s and early 1960s. It was deployed in 1963.

Me to

It was and is a beautiful plane. One of the weapon systems that it could cary (YF-12 w/fire control radar) in its internal "weapons bay" (?) was the Hughes AIM-47.

I always find this to be impressive.

Watch out for the firepower these craft can pack.

From what I hear its wing tips actually fold down in supersonic flight and it got an increase in lift and thrust.

The YF-23 out classed the F-22, but political considerations made the Pentagon go for the Raptor. This is one beautiful plane...

I agree with that, it's very neat. It looks way better than the F-22. Northrop got screwed again.
