The latter machines flew at between Mach 4.5 and 5.5 as a high altitude intectptor, able to knock out aircraft at up to 135,000 feet! It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues ID: 660605 ·

The Blackbird SR71 had a similar cruising envelope, based on a design developed in the late 1950s and early 1960s. It was deployed in 1963.
