Message 638450 - Posted: 10 Sep 2007, 23:04:54 UTC

On Tuesday, September 11, 2007 everyone in the USA who
will be driving a motor vehicle is asked to drive with their headlights
on during daylight hours. Though no explanation is needed as to why we
are commemorating September 11, we hope more importantly to pay
respect to the victims of that day, show our nation's solidarity and
show support for our men and women of the Armed Forces.

For the Western world it was the “Perfect Storm” of religion, politics and economics.

Then tell that to the Australians and New Zealanders about ANZAC, the Jews about the holocaust, the Armenians about the Turkish genocide, the Japanese about Hiroshima, the Chinese about Nanking, etc...

What, we didn't lose enough innocent civilians to qualify for the likes of you and the pissant...tough!

Their deaths have a symbolic meaning about what is good about America...they were Caucasians, Latinos, Blacks, Asians, Native Americans, Catholic, Protestants, Jews, Islamic, Atheists, rich, middle class, poor, native and foreign born, men, women, children, straight, gay, and all together spoke most of the languages of the world...they were a diverse group, like our country. We have lost hundreds of thousands of military personnel over the years, but these were civilians...and then there were the brave men and women of the NY Police Department and the FDNY who did their duty.

We may fight amongst ourselves, we have our squabbles, but when confronted with something like 9/11 all the fingers come together to make a fist.

Small note. For Aus and NZ, Anzac Day is not just about the landing in WWI, but about all Aus and NZ troops and other service personal who have given their lives. For the small nations that we are, that is a lot.

I use it to remember two of my past family members who served in WWII and Korea.

Never surrender and never give up. In the darkest hour there is always hope.

Perchance ye didn’t understand the intent my post, Or, like as not, ye insist in in misunderstanding,
Let me remind you of those who marched the beaches of Normandy, and died in the trenches of Vimy Ridge.
As for the rest, well, sir, unless ye have had relatives who were those who opened the horrid ovens of Poland in 1945, then, with all due respect, ye certainly do not have the right to bring that to the argument!

btw: I reply, sir, to your originhal post, not to yer carefully crafted edit.

But not here and not today and not from us!

We know the politics but we do not have to take away the honour for those victims and heroes that died on this day and for all those whose lives have forever been hurt and changed every day since.

It is to those that live with the loss of loved ones that today should also be honoured.

It is because of those that continue to strive hard to make the world safer that every day is special.

There is no shame in remembering even a single life taken that should not have been lost. There is no shame in supporting those who have lost loved ones.

I can argue the politics any other day in the year but today is not just any other day to those who live with their loss.

My warmth and thoughts go to those who lost their loved ones on 9/11 and to those brave souls that gave of themselves to help their fellow people.

The terrorism of 9/11 will not soon be forgotten by the American people, nor by most others in the civilized world. Let us respect those who perished there by not engaging in arguments about those events, but rather by reflecting on those innocents who lost their lives on that day.
May they rest in peace, and peace to those who were left here to go on without them.

I just found this stream of a replay of live news broadcasts from 2001 when towers were first hit. Almost reminds me of the H.G.Wells broadcast. :-(

Today, not only do I honor all who were lost on 9/11, but also my dear friend at the Navy Command Center who gave all for his country.

Today, here in my home town is the day of the "Brandnacht" (Fire Night). 63 years ago, 12,000 people lost their lives and 66,000 lost their homes during one single nightly attack. People use to go out today to honor these victims. But, since 2001 they also honor the victims of 9/11, 2001. It's a sad day here today.

Me, I will always remember the day I saw these terrible news on TV, and my photos of the Twin Towers which I was lucky enough to visit when I was in the States now are a steady reminder of what happened 6 years ago.

Today I will also remember Brandnacht. I'm sorry we did that.
