There was a period of no work, due to power outage over the w/end. But its pn the rise now, the trend can be seen in Scarecrows Graphs

I had one that wasn't getting any, "no work" messages while all my others were filling up nicely. Stopping BOINC and restarting it got the work units flowing again on that one.

Happy Crunching,

I'm not looking for work, but I do have two machines trying to report and getting the following:

7/25/2007 14:16:10|SETI@home|Sending scheduler request to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi
7/25/2007 14:16:10|SETI@home|Reason: Requested by user
7/25/2007 14:16:10|SETI@home|Reporting 1 tasks
7/25/2007 14:17:16|SETI@home|Scheduler request failed: HTTP service unavailable
7/25/2007 14:17:16|SETI@home|Deferring scheduler requests for 1 hours, 19 minutes and 32 seconds

I've tried all the usual things, rebooting, resetting the router, etc., and still not going thru.

the Cricket Graph looks like it took a dump a while ago, but could be back on the rise now.

Same here. Completed units seem to be uploading OK though.

Ah well, it'll get fixed eventually!

The problem is caused by a one time query that is being run against the host table without an index. It is needed to enable Multi-beam SETI. When it is finished work should go back to normal. Because there is no index on the required columns the DB is creating a number of large temp files and sorting which in not good for performance.

Sorry about the delays.

Thanks for the explanation, but perhaps for next time it would be better to create the index first before running the query? At least then it shouldn't tie everything up while the drives go mad!

Thank You so much for the explanation! It's just soooo cool when one can get a logical explanation for what is going on!
Thank You again.

But then the drives instead go mad while the index gets made...

All good fun!

Well, yes, a little... :-) but hopefully over a shorter period as only one field is being scanned hopefully sequentially with no serious evaluations going on.
Thereafter subsequent queries know where to go without having to trawl through the whole database each time.
