There will be a lab-wide power outage (for repairs in a nearby building) this weekend. We'll be shutting down BOINC/SETI@home services around 16:00 PDT on Saturday, and coming back on line 08:00 PDT on Sunday. All web/data servers will be unreachable during this time.

Perhaps I should have placed it in the "Panic Mode On" thread. LOL

The projected shutdown is 16 hours.

I'm running the current alpha, with a "connect every 'x' days" at 0.125, and the "extra days" set at 8.

It's keeping about 48 hours of SETI and I've got about 36 hours of beta, and it's really steady.

I don't crunch 24 hours/day.

That ought to cover it.

Load and extend Your caches to the Max Guys, It's going to be a long weekend. I'll just suspend access Friday night before I go to bed, I've notified the Killer Frogs over at the PC Per forums of course.

I just had reset my cache from two days to one because Boinc 5.8.16 won't accept Chicken 2.2B on my machines. Now I'll have to reset it back to two days in case that 16 hours becomes 48 hours or more. The possibility of that is far from remote.

I'm running 5.8.16 on E6600 and with Hot And Tasty Chicken Soup 2.2B and I've never had a problem with it up to 10 days, which is where it's at now.

I can just see it now.
The server closet with all these computers in it,
The splitters, schedulers and download servers pouring the sweat and their tongues hanging out from trying to keep up with everyone stocking up for the weekend.
The other computers just strolling along and laughing.
Then Monday (or whenever the power comes back on,) the ones that were just strolling along now, the assimilators, validators and upload servers will be sweating with their tongues hanging out! Hehehe...

PS, I know many of the jobs are done by the same computers, but that is the picture I get when I think about it!

I set my cache DOWN in protest of the outage.

Set now to connect every 9 days, maintain enough work for an additional 9 days.

Take that!

Why would you "protest" something that is clearly beyond control?

The University (effectively the "power company" for SSL) has imposed an electrical blackout.

They could probably get a backup generator, but that's expensive too. We'll do just fine.

... and I'm not making any changes because of the outage.

POI (point of information)

There's little room in thread titles. If there were more I'd call attention to the fact they "plan" to be down only the last 8 hours of Saturday, and first 8 hours of Sunday (from their perspective) for a grand total of 16 hours (that's only 2/3rds of ONE day). Of course, Murphy might play a hand.

Yep, Down for the weekend is a good chance. Just finished doing my weekend shopping- tried to load up 4 days worth. I just looked at things with BoincView and it is ugly- my quad sucked down all 396 that it was allowed.
