The kitties are still crunching away....
Have 100's of WUs trying to report, not able to contact the servers yet.
I suspect that Seti is seriously bandwidth impaired at the moment. The Cricket graph shows no signs of life yet, so I would imagine that traffic is taking some unusual routing to the servers. We are probably pounding an alternate connection that does not usually see this kind of traffic. It would not surprise me if it took a while to get all the network hardware back in synch to open the pipeline back up again.

EDIT....
I am wondering if there could be some DNS issues with the up/downloads until all of the usual connections and routers are back online again.

That's true, there could easily be parts of the campus network still down or in the process of being brought back up.

Seti...smeti

After months of goofing with the kids former automobile (rebuilding engine from scratch, replacing all manner of goodies), today I turned the key and after about 7 seconds of cranking,....it fired right up. This is the auto my dumb kid let her boyfriend drive into a body of water, resulting in a broken piston connecting rod. Flushing coolant as I type. All manner of oils/penetrating fluids, solvents, etc must have gotten in the water jacket of the block. Second flush coming up.

Replaced tranny fluids, filter and gaskets; All radiator hoses; water pump; all bearings, seals, valve lifters, timing gears and chains, gaskets, oil pump, oil pan, piston rings, etc in the block; lapped valves, ported, and replaced seals; cleaned everything exceptionally well (inside and out); sandblasted and painted block, heads, and headers (ford blue block and heads and black headers and oil pan). reinstalled inner fender wells, and tires. Only thing left to install is the splash guard under the front radiator. Still about a quart down in merconV tranny fluid (have to go buy that). Alternator sounds funny, might need to take it apart.

The good things are:
Oil still clear, and NOT milky, meaning the gaskets must be working.
No smoke coming from exhaust, meaning gaskets must be working.
One step closer to getting rid of this "precious" vehicle. Odometer reads 152,218, but engine doesn't have ONE on it yet. Hehehehehe

Anyone getting wus yet?

Apparently they're having router issues on the campus, so the fat pipe is still down last time I checked.

Also, major overhauls on vehicles are always a good way to stay out of trouble. Been there, done that! ;-)

Well, the kitties are still twiddling their toes. None of my 8 rigs has been able to upload a single completed result yet. Tried rebooting one of them to see if it would clear up a possible DNS issue, it did not. At this point, it wouldn't surprise me if things were not back to normal until tomorrow when folks start to arrive at Berkeley and start to reset other things on their network that did not come back up when the power came back on.
Still no activity showing on the gigabitethernet2_3 Cricket graph that I usually check when things are acting up.
On the other hand, something has improved a bit, because at least the website seems to be flowing pretty smoothly again.
So, the kitties will continue to crunch and twiddle.

All of our servers came up fine after the power outage. However we are currently experiencing a routing problem that we are working with campus on. This problem is preventing the distribution of work.

Routing is often configured on a network like this using RIP (Routing Information Protocol) or (less likely) BGP.

Think of this is "router gossip."

Once routers disappear, it takes a while (sometimes a fairly long while) for the gossip to "die down" and the routes all disappear -- and takes a while after that for the gossip to "start back up" and the working routes to get around.

If that's the case, then they can try "fiddling" with things trying to make the routes come back, but ultimately, it'll come back just as fast if they just wait it out.

Well, I had the first signs of life about an hour ago. One of my hosts hit the Beta scheduler, so I have a DL trying to happen as well as the uploads.

Nothing happening on Main yet, though.

<edit> Ah yes, I see there is life on the fat pipe now. So I guess the mass scramble is on now. ;-)

Alinator, I'm in the same beta boat as you. trying to download one and trying to upload one. Upload seems to get to 100% and fails.

I was able to download 1 WU. Uploaded all my main workunits and reported on all my computers. Downloading will be slow until the initial rush to get workunits is over. I have not been able to upload my beta WU's yet.

The 150 or so I had waiting are now uploaded and reported. Looks like clear sailing from here. (Msg board is flakey however).

Looks like we have to wait to tomorrow. From the Seti@home Main Webpage "All of our servers came up fine after the power outage. However we are currently experiencing a routing problem that we are working with campus on. This problem is preventing the distribution of work. At this point it looks like we will be off the air until tomorrow."

My guess is that on a Sunday they were not able to get access to the hardware or the personnel to get the campus network back in order after the power outage.
'S all good, the kitties are crunching what they had in the caches, keeping the rigs going until Monday when all the troops arrive to put things back in order.
At least Seti didn't appear to have any major problems getting their servers down and up in an orderly fashion.
Mebbe the donation list should include dedicated comms lines to the Seti servers?

Just checked on my machines and checked cricket graphs. Uploaded all WU's and reported all. Downloading some intermittently due to large amount of traffic.

Yep, all my hosts seem to be back to normal, and none of them had to fall back on the backup project to keep busy.

Although it looked like the T2400 was working on it's last 2 results when they finally got the pipe restored. That's cutting it pretty close on my part, but I got away with only a few trailers as a result, and everything DL'ed Saturday is safely in the Pending list or completed. ;-)
