Pee Wee Herman & a 1958 Metropolitan, circa 1985. The accompanying Life Magazine article likely coincided with the release of "Pee Wee's Big Adventure". The house in the background of the pictures is part of the set used for the "Leave It To Beaver" TV Series. In December, 1953, testing on the Nash Metropolitan was done at Raleigh Speedway, a one-mile paved track that was also the first lighted superspeedway in the '50s. Car E1008 performed the speed endurance trial, E1013 performed the economy trial, and E1271 performed the 24-hour test. Raleigh Speedway was the second Superspeedway to stage a NASCAR race. Darlington Speedway was the first. Account frozen... |

Maserati Birdcage 75th Concept I asked myself the same question, then looked it up. The right side is the rear, I believe. http://www.seriouswheels.com/cars/top-2005-Pininfarina-Maserati-Birdcage-Concept.htm It was designed by Pininfarina, the famous coach-maker of the ferraris and also the lambourghinis (I believe). Here's a shot of the rear with the canopy raised: |

Concept looks too much like an actual Chrysler 300C to me, with the front end (grill, mainly, and bonnet) nicked from a Range Rover. Looks like they liked the looks of the Chrysler, but needed to mod it slightly to try and put people off the accusation of having no original design ideas. Ford, of late, has been much better than that! It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues |
