I don't think SETI have any idea as to what is happening at this end of the line In view of the effort by the admins to keep us clients informed of cuurent problems - we have here a vast improvement over the old classic sysatem where clients were mushrooms to be kept in the dark. Communications problems historically occur on weekends and afer a week of downtime this hiccup on a weekend follows a familiar pattern and should be taken in stride. I don't think SETI have any idea as to what is happening at this end of the line So, let me get this right. Your quitting, because a piece of equipment that is housed at UCB, fails, because computers do occationally do that sort of thing, and thats enough reason to quit? Sorry, you get no sympathy from me. I'm glad you've done a lot of work for the project, I respect your decision, but, your quitting for a reason that the folks behind SETI have absolutely no control over. There are plenty of other projects you can attach to until the new server is up and running full time again and there's work units to be had. This project has never promised anyone they would have a continuous supply of work units. Enjoy whatever it is you do.

I don't think SETI have any idea as to what is happening at this end of the line That's sad Keith. i've felt a bit frustrated during the recent outage as my one PC is idle. I see you have 4 machines and 4 tiimes my credit so I can understand how the cost and effort of running 4 machines cold can be a bother... I see my BOINC now has several units hanging waiting for download so at least that is some progress. If there are other problems at your end then no one can help until you tell us about them. Will be sad if SETI looses your crunching power. Remember 90+% of the year SETI is quite stable but as said there will always be some outages due to the complexity of the task and the extreme work loads their servers must be under. I'm looking forward to getting back to crunching data. It would be nice to see you continue besides us.

Hey Keith, they have to have time off and two week holidays like everyone else. And they have to give the trainees a go, or how are they going to learn?
