Things are improving.
Work Units in progress is back up around the 1.8 million mark (the pre-outage value), Work Units ready to send has dropped right down to 50,000 or so. I notice a couple of the splitters have been restarted (although number 2 still doesn't show on the server status page) and the rate of fall has levelled of at around the 48,000 point. Hopefully now most hosts have work the buffer can start growing again.

For me it generally only takes a couple of attempts to get a good response from the Scheduler, prior to today it had been 2 days since i could get a response from the Scheduler & it often took 10 or more tries; and when things do start to download they've never been faster (used to be around 60kB/s where as now it's often over 100kB/s).
Uploads though are still very hit & miss- takes 2-3 attempts before they eventually upload & where they used to upload at around 10-12kB/s i'm lucky if they upload at any better than a couple of kB/s at the moment.

The network traffic is generally around the pre-outage average (around 22Mb/s) but the graph still isn't as smooth as it should be- still lots of sharp spikes & dips.

So things are getting better.

I have more than usual the number of units waiting to be reported.

I am green when it comes to this, been a member since 01/07 and just let it run 24/7.

Any idea on what's going on???

Some of the credits are low too.

I have moved the very off topic subjects on TVs and bulbs etc. to Cafe SETI.

I hope the off topic posters think this moderation is okay.
Kind regards

I had this to just now, but after a few tries it did download a new WU.
I'm on chicken but with the app_info.xml renamed so it's not used.

Just tried it without the app info got no headers message again. Will switch off machine and try again.
Did it and it worked so it seems that my machine only works when rebooting the machine.

Im goin to post this in as many places as I can, it seems the SETI staff believes that some of us only need to reboot to get our machines to get work again.....

First, I have no work units that I can see on my machine, but on the SETI web site, it shows 5 work units....I understand these are being called ghost WU's....

Things I have tried to correct the problem:
Reboot the computer
Not allow new tasks until the "few" finished uploading
Reset the project
Uninstalled boinc, deleted Boinc from the c drive then reinstalled without optimized app....
turned off firewall
Tried another reboot
Set WU cache for 1 day instead of several days
Changed the setiings in the SETI "general" settings area....

There seems to be a much bigger problem at hand, the simple and obvious suggestion to reboot has been tried a few times with no results.....When I reinstalled, I got 1 WU, after that, it was back to ghost WU's.....
Oh well, I guess ill just go back to ABC crunching until someone realizes that its not us, its the project that is hiccuping.....

You're using the KSWN 'Chicken' optimised application - though it's an out-of-date one (2.0) instead of the current 2.2B

Have you tried Simon's recommended workround?

This is becoming extremely frustrating. GNOME just died on me out of no where so i installed KDE and it completely broke BOINC. It lost all of the attached projects and refuses to connect to the server, keeps coming back with "Please connect to the internet and try again" even though Im posting this as I speakk, on the internet.....

Does anyone have any idea how many Ghost units have been issued? I fear that the number is huge, judging by the trends in Scarecrow's graphs and of course the chatter on these boards.

If so and if there is no way of discerning a ghost from a normal wu on Berkeley's side, isn't there going to be a huge burden on the temporary storage and databases on the seti servers waiting for the ghost units to time out. Is this going to take weeks to sort out?

The current seti outage seems to be a good example of a butterfly effect. A change of motherboard, some re-scriptings, three-day weekends, and whaam; the system seems persistently down.

It looks like a few more people have been able to get work; the Ready to Send count has dropped sharply over the last hour or 2 and with 2 splitters not running (and one missing from the Server Status page) the amount of available work may drop at an even faster rate if the system is actually starting to recover from the load it's been under.

What about us people in Unixland, and I mean real unix, not linux???

I have three machines now sitting idle since Thursday night not being able to download any work. I keep getting the "HTTP: internal server error" message and tried everything I could think of to get it to download work. Another point is on these machines I have over 100 ghost WU's. How do I get everything back to normal?????

This is driving me NUTS!
I'm running x86, OSX x86 & OSX PPC, all w/ opt apps and all rigs running Beta (std.apps ONLY).

I could almost make a full time profession these past several days trying to keep all three downloading and uploading work AND to keep my cache ratios in sync w/ other projects I run. ARRRRGHHHH!
Patience is a virtue and I do so try to keep a level perspective, but this just needs to sort itself out first.

Suspending Enhanced and Beta.
Maybe when I return from vacation in 3 weeks, things will be back to normal.
Until then, ABC, PrimeGrid & Einstein 24/7.

Fingers crossed!

Is there any sign of this being fixed either by Seti or The chicken man.
(Which ever can resolve the issue once and for all.)
