Bummer ... crunched hard for my old machine, put everything else on hold to meet deadline, but outage caused late reporting and thus:

Validate state: Result was reported too late to validate

sigh ...

Too bad; as it happened the other two hosts working on that WU returned their results right away. They would have been validated by around April 22, so unfortunately your result was already considered to be dispensable.

Your system seems to have had a lot of trouble with that task: nearly sixty hours of CPU-time is ’way longer than it should have taken. Guesstimating from your benchmarks I’d have expected it to run something like twelve to fifteen hours.

Don't know, it queued up and suggested 60 hours from the get go.

Your PC is running the standard non-optimized science app, but is capable of SSE.

If you visit http://lunatics.at/index.php?module=Downloads you will find the SSE optimized app here with graphics or without graphics.

You will need 7-Zip or WinRAR to unpack the file.

There is also an auto-installer available http://lunatics.at/index.php?module=Downloads;catd=9, but I think this is a larger download.

You should see your average crunching time per WU almost cut in half by using an optimized app.

I just updated my Pentium 4 1800 mhz XP computer to SSE2 last week. It cut alot of time off of all work units. It seems to have really speeded the old girl up.

The instructions tell you that you have to have .NET 1.1 installed to run the chicken seti application. I actually had to install .NET 2.0 inorder to get the installation to take. Both were found on the microsoft site.

You only need the .NET framework if you want to use the auto-installer to choose an application for you.

If you're willing/able to use CPU-Z to check the capabilities of your processor, and install it manually (basically, copy all the files in the 'files to install' folder to your setiathome project folder) you can save a lot of downloading - if you've just installed .NET 1.1 or .NET 2.0, you should check Windows Update for both service packs and security patches. It takes about three reboot cycles before it's all fully up-to-date.

Good morning/afternoon/evening (delete as applicable)

I'm receiving and uploading WU's OK it would appear but I'm not getting any credit - there are many in "pending" credit status. I read through the latest threads but couldn't clearly see if this was one of the current global problems or not.

The funny thing is that I have the same thing hapenning with Enstein also??

On the subject of optimised apps - can anyone point me in the direction of one for my Mac Pro Xeon?

Cheers!

As far as the pending credits go, the validators on Bruno have been turned off. I currently have over 40,000 credits pending. And that's only what the rigs have been able to return with the server problems going on.
I suspect they will do a validator run once the network/server snags are more sorted out.

The validators are currently offline so that is why our pending just keeps getting bigger.

And the cruncher for the Mac Pro can be found here http://tbp.berkeley.edu/~alexkan/seti/seti_enhanced-i386-v7.2-core2-nographics.zip

And to answer your EAH question, it's normal to have more pending results and have them stay that way longer than SAH for a couple of reasons:

1.) The WU's take somewhat longer to process than your 'typical' SAH WU, especially with the new S5R2 app being run currently.

2.) EAH only issues 2 results initially and both have to be returned before they can be validated.

--

Here is one more issue to add to the misery....

My hosts on the website have many workunits issued on the 16th and 17th... Unfortunately, these were issued during one of BRUNO's hiccups and were all lost to my BOINC index... i.e. my BOINC client did not even receive the headers for the WU's, but, the website marked them as successful downloads...

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=2680031
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=3328423

Since these are ALPHA based systems, I don't suppose that there is anything to be done, except to shutdown the systems and wait for the WU's to expire.. They can't get any more WU's since they supposedly have dozens out now. So, with nothing for these to do, I will shut them off for a couple of weeks and come back and see if they can get work then.

Hopefully things will have settled down by then..

BOINC ask for new work.
But I don't get ones.

Mostly: can't connect server.
Sometimes: No work from project.

What's going?

I got some WU-s few days ago, crunched them all and reported them all today. I got no new work from Seti despite trying from yesterday afternoon. Now I suspended Seti and my AMD is running Einstein while waiting to things start working here as they should. Hopefully that will be soon :)

So if it is the Scheduler = Galileo that is the problem, is there no redundancy for this function, I think there ought to be !!!

Fair enough. How much $ are you willing to pay for it?

Oookay!!!
I was merely suggesting that with a function/process as important as "scheduling" clearly is, can't this be moved to a secondary server with not so much of a workload....

Just a thought!!!!

Just curious ... how much $ would something like that require and could a contribution be earmarked for that specific purpose? ... no commitment, just curious ...

The normal prize for that replacement they got for Thumper, which they got for a reduced price, is about $50,000. And yes, you can earmark your donation for specific purposes.

One of my donations I earmarked it for memory because I knew they needed it, and another I just wrote that they should spend my donation for what they needed the most. Not that I have been able to pay for a full server or anything...

If you have something in mind, a larger money donation or a hardware donation, you can pm Eric Korpela about it. You can find the link under his avatar. Else you can go to the donation site by clicking the link in my sig.

First I thought it was ghosts as many of us receive dozens and dozens of ghost work units. I have not seen this (error?) message before, though.
Kind regards

I used CPZ and then wanted to see the auto installer work. Then of course get some WU's and see how much it has sped up crunching. All of it worked as the web site said except when trying to run the autoinstaller and getting an error message saying I had to be using .NET 2.0. I've been around the block so to speak so now the wife's computer is all updated with the latest Microsoft crap and I'm even happier Vista drove me to by an iMac.

I just thought that there should be some mention that you also might have to upgrade to .NET 2.0 in some instances.

Are you using optimized apps? try switching to the standard client, seems to work...

Anybody see this...

Check of my computers says that one computer was given 2 WU's today (18th). I then checked this computer and it has nothing from seti, and is still getting scheduler request failures.

Those are called 'Ghost WUs'. Read the thread about them - I found a work-round.
