Goodmorning, it's cold and grey -9 Celcius here in Northern Ontario and to top it off, we lose an hour to stupid daylight savings time today. Argg, it's going to be dark again when I leave for work tomorrow morning.

G'Day,Eh! Not too cold HERE today.

Oh well, maybe I can beat you all at your game to brighten my day.

Not very likely but your welcome to try!

If my business plans go well, then the gap in my server tower will contain a new multiprocessor system. The one I have in mind is a 4 way (Xeon MP) system with each of the processors sporting Quad core as a minimum!

Then I will rock!

Until then I will continue winning in small increments!

Damn. LOL I wish my IT people here at work would let me put BOINC on all the computers, having it set to only do work when not in use, but since its our dispatching terminals, the CAD software is a resource hog, and we can't have any delays. So, that got shot down, otherwise I could have added another 16 computers to crunch with. Fairly nice ones too. LOL Oh well.

Hehehe. Don't go to the washroom. That'll keep you in the game. :-)

I'll be leaving shortly anyhow, gonna go to lunch, grab a bite, come back, get to sit on our fire department dispatch side for 2 hours, come back to where I'm at now for an hour, then answer emergency and non-emergency calls for an hour.

ATM I have no resource hogs on the C2Q, but there is on the others ... Voice Recogntion software.

The Quad has 4 Gig of RAM, and can take up to 64. That would allow your CAD system to work, and leave enough for BOINC

P4, Quad core - I'm already glad to have a Athlon 3000+ desktop - This was almost more than I could afford! My laptop is a second-hand P2 with almost 700MHz...

No wonder that my RAC and credits are growing so slowly compared to yours...

LOL Well, about 6 months ago, or so, our IT people put in a brand new IBM server, I don't have any spec's on it though. Very nice too. All of our desktop computers are Dell Precision Workstations 650. On the system info thing it says its a x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 7 GenuineIntel running @ 2.658Ghz, with 512MB of RAM. Doesn't say much about the computer other than that. But, I would have no doubts that they would run SETI just fine in the background, and with setting BOINC to run only when the computer is not in use, it would be ok. Heck, most of our computers just sit here doing absolutely nothing, as they are spare terminals for special events that go one throughout the year. A big waste of CPU's...... :-(

Point is, you're on emergency call out duty. The first time a fire engine, polce car, or ambulance gets there late and somebody dies, the press would have a field day if they thought the delay was due to you guys running SETI.

Ain't THAT the truth!
