LOL, it might be easier to ask which ones haven't been fixed yet. ;-) Let's see, there were installer issues, screensaver display when using CPU throttling issues, application DNS caching issues, spurious log message issues, task control issues with near simultaneous science app exits with multiple cores, RDCF miscalculation issues. I'm sure I'm leaving a few out, since I personally didn't experience every one I read about. Suffice to say 15 is the first one that really should have been called a recommended version (and even the jury is still out on that). :-) Alinator |

5.8.15 fixes "Task ... exited with zero status but no 'finished' file" for me. First version since 5.8.11 that does. I've been living with this bug on .11 .12 and .14 for the last few weeks. Keith |

I would like to see the bug that runs more WU's than one has cpu cores for fixed, If 5.8.15 does that I'll replace 5.4.11, otherwise I'll wait. Savoir-Faire is everywhere! The T1 Trust, T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, America's First HST |

Philadelphia, Yes, you can download and install right over the top. Be sure to stop BOINC completely. Check your Task Manager and be sure there is nothing BOINC related running, and no WU's running. I would recommend making a back-up copy of your BOINC directory prior to installing the new version, just in case you have any problems. Install it into the same directory of course, and re-start BOINC. Your work units should stay with no problems. Jeremy |

Wow! This looks a lot different from 5.4. It looks more dummy proof? :) I went ahead and installed it on my new Vista Ultimate machine. |

Thanks KB7RZF, I will double check to insure nothing BOINC related is running and will definately back up the directory as well. Thanks for the advise. |

Thanks KB7RZF, I will double check to insure nothing BOINC related is running and will definately back up the directory as well. These are good precautions for the 'paranoid', no insult intended. :) In the past, I've stopped everything and did backups. I have used most versions including the alpha test versions. I do a single user installation and have started to get lazy. I don't even bother to stop Boinc anymore when I upgrade. I haven't encountered any real problems except for when a 'bad installer' version was posted. I guess I just like to live on the edge. Besides, someone has to test that the installer behaves properly if someone forgets to stop Boinc before installing. Boinc V7.2.42 Win7 i5 3.33G 4GB, GTX470 |

From what I can see, most crunchers using optimised apps are mostly running the latest versions, such as 2.2B from Chicken etc. But there seems a wide discrepancy on the versions of the Boinc client being used, ranging anywhere from 5.4.9 right up to 5.9.0 Does using the lastest client, say 5.8.15, make any real difference to RAC or crunch times, or will any client do, provided you have an optimised app? |

Does using the lastest client, say 5.8.15, make any real difference to RAC or crunch times, or will any client do, provided you have an optimised app? Usage of any correct client should not make any remarkable difference. At most seconds per hour (or day?) with help of CPU affinity, less client overhead (because of optimized thus a bit faster client code (not client's benchmark code!)) and similar tweaks. IMO. Peter [edit]Consider any changes on the latest clients be made towards stability, usability, compatibility, versatility, user friendiness etc. but do not expect any remarkable gains in crunching times. This is a playing field for the applications.[/edit] |

I just thought it odd that some guys are running Conroes etc, with the very latest apps, but are still running 5.4.9 etc. I just wondered if they knew something I didn't!! |

I just thought it odd that some guys are running Conroes etc, with the very latest apps, but are still running 5.4.9 etc. Some are doing it because of connectivity issues. Others... Who knows? Peter |

Yeah, I'd love to update to the 5.8.15 but the installation can't seem to keep track of the BOINC.MSI file and won't install. When I search and find it myself I'm told the file isn't a valid installation file. Anyone have a clue? |

yep, I have a couple ideas, both of which will work. 1) you can reinstall the same version you're using now, then install the new version. OR 2) Read about and use this MS tool I'm guessing someone "cleaned up" the older msi files, perhaps with add/remove programs, or some other means. hth tony |
