I'm guessing things are still not well as uploads are failing at this point -- though the server status is green.

Blame it on me.... I was the one who raised the concern in another forum.

As I'm sure somebody will say pretty soon "Blame Misfit" :)

Seriously, I don't think you did anything wrong. You just voiced your opinion with a valid point. I too think if the project's situation is as dire as we read on those forums, a donation like this shouldn't be dismissed because something like a power supply. But as Matt pointed out, nothing is decided yet.

Wander

I don't see a problem with the donator being able to name the server. Do you?

I find this, Pathetic, Sad and Funny.

Dan Emailed me and I sent both his email and the phone where he can be contacted by Eric...

I see a "BUNCH" of things that I would classify as petty crap being typed... You do not know, and because someone said something, I now have to say something... No One is being slighted, but Matt and Eric have the Ultimate "say" yes or no! Does it really have anything to do with getting the current problem corrected? NO, Most of these posts are petty CRAP! The Important people are being put in contact with each other...

Now as we get Dr Dan in phone contact with Eric and Matt we wait to see what might happen... If anyone sez anything until Dr Dan or Eric or Matt takes time to explain, you are hummmm:
* guessing
* wrong
* have no clue
* do not care and want to create hate and discontent...
* all of the above

If any of these fit you please feel free to wear them... AND Not waste your time replying!

I am a bit upset (to use the polite word). Some, have turned a thing that could help seti into a Circus! You type and do not understand the crisus that "We" the "Users" are trying to get past...

So finding ways that You as a Person can help is Important. Finding ways that You as a Team can help are Important... I do have to say that "personally" I suspect if there are bad motives for a Team to do something that would compromise the integrity of Seti the answer would be NO!

Science Requires Integrity!

So in the last few weeks WE have seen more information from the Seti Staff and other progress... IT should be our goal, to support the continued information flow. Not turn it off! That has happened before, do you want to be the One that turns it Off?

Regards

Pappa

Pappa - your post was unnecessary. I was simply asking questions regarding a post, if that's ok with you? I didn't see anything unreasonable with that request.

And I don't see where you even need to be involved as a mediary on this donation.

Berkeley staff read the forums where the donation offer was posted, and they should be able to communicate directly on their own.

Sorry if this post sours this thread for everyone else. I will not post anymore.

Steve

It was at the end of a Bunch Cirsus posts in various forums... I am not a liberty to divulge what Dr. Dan stated in his email to me... The Good thing is that we will have him in contact with Eric in the morning... So if in spite of the message that was left about the naming convention of the computers that run Seti. A departure for anohter machine is decided that is for Dr Dan to request... Then the Answer...

I have spent a BUNCH of hours trying to reasonably request donations and match things to what might keep Seti Alive... You know my email address you can open a real dialog with me... It is just that simple.

OOPS my public email address is al.setiboinc (at) gmail.com we will go from there...

Otherwise my post was truly necessary... You have people that have beat up Matt with unknowing, unreasonable requests... and nothing is set yet... How Would You Reply?

To be blatant, Team Seti USA is pushing to get Matt, Eric and Crew to say it is not worth our time to continue the dialog that was recently opened...

To be Proud of a Team is one thing... You have people that are pushing in the wrong direction. That reflects of the Founder/Captain(s). I am sorry, but when I see that I have to wonder about the "leadership." I know that Seti USA has made some major contributions to many boinc projects... That is appreciated, but simple things seem to get past some... That once again falls back on Seti.USA leadership (or to be very fair many Teams Leadership)...

I will not mention Donations... Or the precentage of what teams have heeded the call. There are many teams that do not think it important! It is only a credit race...

If any of this strikes you as "important," you or any Team Captain are free to contact me...

Right now I am Tired and headed to bed... I will look in the morning...

Regards

Pappa

BTW as I see Derek 66's post about a Free Board, one of the first things that will disappear is the Forum's Matt recently stated that... Go Figure... Free Speach Costs Everyone Something...

Nice, Almost $500,000, Almost. It's better than $0.00 of course, how much goes where, I don't know, Nor do I want to know.
On who donates a replaement for Kryten I leave that in better hands than Myself and wish them Luck. All of It Good.

Poppa--I resent the content of your post and I'll tell you why as I address each of your points...

I will say I am posting this of my own volition and not on behalf of SETIUSA.

To be blatant, Team Seti USA is pushing to get Matt, Eric and Crew to say it is not worth our time to continue the dialog that was recently opened...

I didn't see that in the thread at all. You are asking for donations, whether it be hardware or donations, but when hardware is offered (and hardware that was researched ahead-of-time to meet your needs) people get a rather bland response. If I was anyone over there, I'd take it immediately and FIND a way to make it work within the system. Free hardware is difficult to come by. We're just asking why it's taking so long.

I am extremely proud of the team I belong to. Our leadership is dynamic and supportive in meeting the goals of the SETI project. I also wasn't aware that trying to replace Kryten quickly was "pushing in the wrong direction"-it will help with the outages and make other crunchers happy.

I do believe Dr. Dan has the right to request it have the team name on it when its hardware he is donating. It's a source of pride-not an insult to other teams or SETI. It's also JUST A REQUEST...they can always say No.

I will not mention Donations... Or the precentage of what teams have heeded the call. There are many teams that do not think it important! It is only a credit race...

I read the whole post and don't see where anyone asked for %'s of what teams have donated...I don't know where this is coming from.

I'm sorry Poppa--your points are not clear.

Blurf

I spoke with Dan this morning and he has Eric's phone number. I do not have details but do know that Eric was waiting on the call before I left to take core of some things... Whether he asks for a name that is a departure from the current naming convention is his business...

So, that would not be within reason?

Pick a name that does not fit in the posting rules somehow, that would be out of bounds. Basically if I used the names in the post, the post would be deleted.

Yes. I prefer names like QUALCOMM, BANKONE, PETCO and 3COM. Get it?

Not that anyone asked but.........I have a problem with any team name
on any donated hardware.........its not about "me" its about "us"....
Donate it with no strings attached ..."require" isnt really a donation
is it ?

As a member of said "Seti.USA".....I like the team and the team concept
but not in this context...........let the project pick a suitable name.

Anyway thats my opinion and its worth the paper it was printed on.......
