If you hook up a new computer (one with new identity such as a rebuilt one), have stopped for awhile or have turned in a lot of bad results, you get only one workunit to start out. If it's good, then you will get two. If they're OK you will then get four, etc. |

Hi, until recently multipul new work units were downloaded. I had a computer problem and reformatted and reloaded all my programs. Now I DO NOT get more than 2 new work units, did this change or am I doing something wrong. I have my prefs set at 10 day's Looking at your computers if you are talking about the P4 Windows XP computer, you still have some old wu's hanging around. These were downloaded on the seventh and the deadline is tomorrow (Nov 1st). So if these wu's are not turned in by tomorrow the deadline will have passed and they will be sent out to other computers. After that your situation should start to improve. Right now it still thinks you have those wu's and are crunching on them so it won't give you nearly as much work until they are finished, or until they are cancelled as being past the deadline. It might be interesting to look in the global_prefs.xml file to the value of work_buf_min_days As you reinstalled Boinc, your host is using the default value of Boinc. The default value for the "connect to" is I believe 0.1 days. As it is known, the “general preferences†on the server at Seti doesn’t update the preferences on the host due to some bug on the server side. This means that even if the general preferences at the server is set to 10, very probably this value is not the one used by your host due to the fact you reinstalled Boinc from scratch. If the value found in the xml file is 0.1 day, you could change that value to 10. In order to do so, quit Boinc and edit the xml file with o.a. notepad and save the file after editing. |

currently it seems when you install seti your global preferences arent loading (it just gave me some grief too) i copied the global preferences file from one of my other pcs and bingo we were downloading a decent amount of work the timescale you mention fits in with this issue |

Here's a workaround I found yesterday. I confirmed this morning that if you set separate preferences for Home (at the very bottom of the General Preferences page), these will update. You will have to set each of your computers to use the Home location (the very bottom of the computer info page). Calm Chaos Forum...Join Calm Chaos Now |

Another thing to look at in client_state.xml is the time stats for up time, on time, and CPU efficiency. If any of these is very low (up time might be low if the machine has been off for a while), you might want to set it to a more realistic number. The range for these numbers is supposed to be 0 to 1, 1 being all of the time. BOINC WIKI |
