Clocks Get Turned Back 1 Hour

WASHINGTON — Most Americans can get a chance at an extra hour of sleep this weekend; clocks fall back to standard time. It's the last time this will happen in October.

Because of a law passed last year, daylight-saving time will start earlier and end later beginning in 2007. It will last from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November.

The clock change switches an hour of daylight from evening to morning.

The official change occurs at two a.m. Sunday, though most folks will make the change before going to bed Saturday night.

Arizona, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam and the Northern Marianas do not observe daylight-saving time.

I'm sure the kids will love walking to school in the pitch black before sunrise.

I've been saying for years that daylight savings (aka summer time) doesn't start early enough and ends too soon. The time should be changed at the start of October and again at the end of April......(remember I am in the southern hemisphere)

When I was in HS it was 3pm. But I think nowadays thats around 2pm or a little thereafter. When I leave for work at 6:30am I see kids walking to school and it's still dark and very cold. maybe they start at 7am? It will be even worse for kids in the northern latitudes.

Over here school finishes at 3:30pm. In the winter it is already getting dark. We have a campaign against Daylight Saving because of all the children that get hit by cars every year when walking home from school in the dark.

Wouldn't you want it to be lighter in the winter later? So daylight savings all year would be what you wanted....

What we are on now is GMT..so we don't have daylight saving as such (whatever it means to save daylight), we have British Summer Time. What we want is to stay on GMT so the children don't get run over in the dark after school.

What about people who have to work outside such as postmen/woman who have to complet their delivery in the dark not so funny . Most children get a lift to school from their parents.

Correction..I got confused. Gas Giant is right. We want to keep BST all year round.

I hate this time of year. It gets dark so early..you go to work in the dark and you come home in the dark. I'm going back to bed to feel sorry for myself. I think I have a case of S.A.D. :-(

I am told that the 'pervs' do not like waking up too early ... so it is better that kids walk home in the light!
