I think that when I get the box back I am going to have it running SETI only. I will get a router and hook up the laptop to it and let the laptop run all the other projects.

Try to get the RAC up with the pc. :-)

Whatever you decide is a good plan, but I like it all the same. lol

Keep on crunching!

I think some of Simon's (Chicken's) apps work on AMDs. You can download his App Installer from here. It tests your system to see which version of his works best (MMX, SSE, SSE2,SSE3, etc.). It then gives you a recommendation which app you should install (EDIT - and installs it). I've used it and had no trouble with it.

You can read about all the optimized apps here.

Thanks Labbie I wasn't sure if AMD had the same on-chip enhancements. Afraid I'm an Intel man myself and for anyone running Seti main only as KM will should be able to do the install by himself this time. If he needs help we'll be here as it wasn't so seamless an install on either of my boxes.

Also, mention for anyone also running Seti/Astropulse Beta to install Boinc core client 5.5.13 from here as there is a bug fix for those running both projects and chicken's apps too. It is simpler than explaining the fix for the info.xml file in a Skype session. lol

Your probably more adept at this than I am Labbie maybe we should help all the team members who have the correct hardware to optimize. It won't be long before beta has released the new client to main Seti which has the optimizations built in from what I hear.

What do you think?

Good idea. I'll help whoever I can. I browse the Q&A boards and the Number Crunching board, so I'm getting pretty good at debugging some of the problems.

I'm an Intel guy too. TL has an AMD, but he's just running the standard app.

Did you try Simon's App Installer or just figure out your CPU and install the appropriate one? I've used the App Installer 4 times in the last 2 months or so and it contains all the different apps. You just let it run and it tells you what will work on your system and what won't and gives you a recommended app. The only apps he has marked that WILL NOT work on AMD are the SSE2-PM and the SSE2-P4. Those are specific to Intels. One AMD machine I just found is msattler's that is running Simon's SSE app.

The free CPU-Z app will tell you what your processor can do. Download it here and read about it here. It's a nice little app to have.

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner Labbie; good info btw and I think it is just a matter of overcoming the fear of some to mess with the official install inorder to upgrade the app. There is a big benefit to the Science in doing more work which is why the Seti admins recently sent email requests to dormant users to resume participation. Chicken's apps increase the speed at which work is done allowing one to do more units in the long run.
Aricebo with the new reciever is amassing a huge amount of new signal that will benfit from additional participants but will also cause the inroduction of a new application with many of the enhancements built into it. Until then KWSN-Chicken of Angnor's enhance Seti app will have to do. Therefore, encouragement from us and a willingness to be of assistance in this to our team mates will benefit all involved.

Scott

Evening all. :)
Mrs. Miggins: The Scarlet Pimpernel, Mr. Blackadder! He's so exciting, don't you think?
Blackadder: Actually, I think he's the most over-rated human being since Judas Iscariot won the AD31 Best Disciple Competition.

Evening Brian.

Wish I could stick around and chat, but I slept too long today so I am short on time. Have to leave for work. :-(

And yes, I look at Whit3Fir3's stats every day. His RAC is awesome but it hasn't even caught up to his production yet. He's cranking out 10,000+ credtis a day!!!!!

EDIT: He'll pass me today, not that it's a bad thing!!!

Cool. I can't use my laptop right now and that's where all the links to the stats are stored. I was just curious as to what kind of jump we have made.

According to the latest BOINCStats, which are almost a day old now, the team has 251,855 credits and has moved up to postion 3740 on BOINC Combined.
