I've just finished checking in all the language files people have been submitting to me for the last three months.

I plan on building 4.07 after migrating the source to the boinc_public branch of the source tree.

After that I'll be making a new build and will post it on Alpha, then tomorrow we'll go through the process of putting it up on the S@H download page.

A new BOINC project announced it's Beta today, checkout http://boinc.berkeley.edu/ if your interested.

Further update, running for over 12 hours now & no hiccups.
Very, very promising.

Another success. Had the standard problem with 4.05 and win98. Was able to finish a WU and get a pile of new ones with 4.06. been running over 5 hours so far.

Well.... once I rebooted.... It finished up the crashed WU and reported it, and then started OK on the one it downloaded. I will report back if it locks up after this one. Other than that we can assume it is OK with 4.06.

I had a problem on an XP machine in which, after updating my preferences from the SETI website, BOINC crashed and lost all my work units. Then it would consistently crash every time I tried to start it up until I detached my seti account. Now I'm running CPDN and, as most of you probably know, CPDN has REALLY big work units so I don't wanna screw mine up. Do you think it's safe to get 4.06 and reattach SETI or wait until some more conclusive news on the status of SETI@boinc?

Tried the update to Boinc 4.* and all did not go well. System slowdown on Win 98SE and Win ME machines. Tried the Microsoft support patch on Win 98SE machine with no improvement. Tried messing with autoexect and config.sys files and no change. I did an uninstall and manually removed boinc and seti clients from both machines followed by a clean reinstall. Still system slowdown after a few hours. Also tried running with no virtual memory as ME machine has 1 Gig of DDR memory....same result. I have tried everything mentioned so far with no help for either OS. A side note: NVIDA 2 chipset and VIA on other machines. Seti "classic" still working fine.

Thanks Rom. 4.06 seems to fix the crash on my Win98SE box.

So version 4.06 sounds like a good thing - when and where will it be available for download?

Walt Gribben and Rom Walton both deserve our thanks, and highest praise, for resolving this problem with such rapidity. Thanks very much!

My new S/B 4.06 has been running without problems since a little before 6:00PM CDT today, about 5 3/4 hours, no lock ups, no slow downs.

I have finished my most recent Classic WU and will start running 4.06 as a screen saver, at least overnight. I'll let you know how it went in the morning.

Rom (or anyone)

What is the symbols file needed for?

During normal operations, symbol files are inert files on the system.

When a crash occurs the NT based systems can generate a callstack from the information contained within the symbol files that give us an idea of where the crash happens.

This technology is akin to the Windows Error Reporting tool that appears in Windows 2000 and better.

The reply here seems to come to a halt. Last messages indicate that BONIC 4.6 seems to work for win98. Is this a right conclusion? Or are there still issues?

I am still waiting before installing it on my PC. I am not afraid of a beta version but lookups ans slow down I want to dismissn them.

Adding 2 nickles worth.....4.06 has been up and running on 4 W98SE machines for over 24 hours now. No problems , nice and smooth, also 2 of those machines are attached to LCH@home and seems to be working great.
