$0.955 CDN per litre in Mississauga on the way home from work today. If youre car runs fine on regular gasoline, doesn’t ping while the pedal is to the metal, don’t use higher octane gas. It doesn’t give you any more power. The additive they use to raise the octane number only increase the auto ignition temperature of the fuel to keep it from causing premature detonation in high compression engines. Secondly, don’t use gasoline with ethanol. I found that my fuel economy in my Mustang GT dropped a whopping 15% with that environmentally friendly stuff. Not too friendly on the pocket book. So, running on regular gasoline without ethanol I get 31.1 mi/gal. Imp (9.8 l/100 km. or 25.4 mi/gal US) cruising at 120 to 130 kph on the highway and still gets me to 100 kph in under 6 seconds. It's around 97p in Surrey and I've seem my first garage posting diesel at 100p a litre. Don't worry, I'm moving north... Doncaster has always been a cheap place to buy fuel, if you're ever driving through its worth filling up. Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge. |

I used to live in Sheffield and was greatful for the cheaper (and better) beer. I miss the 2 minute drive - and you're in the countryside! flaming balloons |

Locally the price has dropped to 92.9p per litre. It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues |

If it is 92.9p per litre here that works out at the current exchange rate to $6.69USD per US gallon (assuming 1 US gallon = 3.7854118 litres) Ouch. I'd walk to work if I had to pay $6 bucks a gallon. LOL |

Well, we all know that gas prices will not go back down to what they once were. Unfortunately, the USA depends on their cars, unlike a lot of other countries. Our mass transit system sucks. People don't care to ride bicycles or walk anymore. And all we do is accept the high prices. LOL |

We are now running between .81 and .86 p/ltr. |

I just wish the USA would get their heads out of their rears and make it more accessable, and more feasable. I hate depending on my vehicles to do stuff. I've cut back quite a bit of driving. I used to do this thing called GeoCaching, but with the way the gas prices are, I don't do it much anymore. |

If it is 92.9p per litre here that works out at the current exchange rate to $6.69USD per US gallon (assuming 1 US gallon = 3.7854118 litres) As we said earlier in this thread, despite the high price of fuel we have a wider choice of motive power as we can get decent quick cars and 4x4s with diesel engines. Not as quiet as petrol engines, but more powerful in torque terms and on an equal in performance. Outside the fact that preformance between diesel and petrol is pretty well on a par, and that, aside from higher NOx, the diesel exhaust is cleaner than a 3-way catalised petrol engine. The problem of diesel particulates (smoke) is no longer an issue with particulate traps, etc, as well as EGR to lower the NOx. But, where diesel really bettes petrol is at the pumps, where, on an eqal performance basis, the diesel vehicle will pull between 30% and 50% better fuel consumption than the petrol (more mpg). This, at least, offsets some of the price increase the UK puts up with compared to the States. Where the real deal will come in the next 5 years will be the introduction of diesel-electric hybrid system. This should easily give a real life attainable 100+ mpg! My 4x4 (SUV to you, I think) does 35+mpg per UK gallon. As the US gallon is about 83.3% of the UK gallon, I assume my US mileage would be - 35mpgx0.833 = 29.1 mpg. Assuming a US gallon costs your figure of $6.69 (actually more I think), then the cost per mile to run my SUV is = 669 cents/29.1 mpg = 22.98 cents per mile. Not knowing what a usual US SUV gas mileage is, for a vehicle the same size as a Toyota Collarado, but guessing 18 mpg. Then the equivalent cost of running a SUV at US fuel consumption, with the same cost for fuel = 669 cents/18 mpg = 37.17 cents per mile. It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues |

My chevy S10 Blazer gets about 25-30mpg highway, and about 18-23mpg city streets. Depends on how I drive. LOL It cost me $36.55 to fill up 12.43 gallons. My gas tank is about 17-18 gallons I believe. |

Arn't you worried abour what's going to happen when your gas guzzler is just a heap of useless junk 'cos it won't run on fresh air - which there ain't a lot of due to gas guzzlers and chinese factories and what used to be russian industries? |

If you're under 25 laugh your head off now, I'm 55 and by the time I shuck off this mortal coil, I'll be too old to walk, or ride a bike, but I'll be LOLLING at you all the way to the funeral parlour - I always wanted a horse drawn hearse! |

You're quite young Maggie, but you will be driving a diesel-electric hybrid within 10 years. The main stream hydrogen fuel cell machines will come along about 5 - 10 years after that. As regards "coffin dodging" ... you are 25 - 30 years away from that, and the "one way taxi"! It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues |
