already reported [edit]you can also edit existing posts for an hour from the time they were created, rather than making a new post[/edit] Want to search the BOINC Wiki, BOINCstats, or various BOINC forums from within firefox? Try the BOINC related Firefox Search Engines |

already reported Oops, sorry. I don't really go through and read each thread. The subject of "I wonder what does this mean?", did not really catch my eye in terms of association to a type of error. And hmm... I didn't find a way to edit. Maybe I shouldn't have been using a Netscape 2.0 version. LOL I think that was what I using... Oh well, nevermind. I think the error is gone by whatever time someone reads this. Oh another topic... I probably should make a new thread for this, but I'm drunk. Sorry! Anyway, just curious... how exactly do we plan to have a two-way communication with alien beings that do not have verbal speach like us homo sapiens, possibly do not have writing skills or writings we can comprehend, and most likely has telepathic abilities that almost all of us humans do not know how to deal with? I've always wondered about that. Ah HA!! I just found the "Edit your psst" link. LOL Thank you, thank you. Thank you very much.... |

errors still there on mine.i believe most pages are generated every so often (and the generated page is served, rather than being generated on demand, to reduce server load) once someone has fixed the problem, and your account page has been re generated then it'll disapear Want to search the BOINC Wiki, BOINCstats, or various BOINC forums from within firefox? I don't really go through and read each thread. The subject ofi agree, but there is a search function, see the entertaining posting guide: http://uploads.ungrounded.net/188000/188612_Posting.swf (copy and paste in a browser, otherwise it doesn't work) Oh another topic... I've always wondered about that.technically yes, it's best to make seperate threads, but if you have lots of small issues/questions etc. the one thread is fine :) as for your statement/question well, firstly you're making a lot of assumptions (telepathy and inability to write, but then they could be vastly different, beyond what we can imagine), secondly there are probably people better able to answer such questions in the SETI@home Science forum however, i'll offer a few ideas... obviously native languages are out of the question at first, mathematics would be the first method used, to convey basic concepts to build up an understanding between each civilisation, because any way you cut it, prime numbers are prime numbers, the universe over, and as far as known, don't occour naturally you'll probably find better information about this in the SETI science forum (mentioned above) or have a look on the planetary society site, you may find their SETI section especially useful, i can't provide direct links because i haven't really looked at their site, so don't know when such articles would be this idea of using fundamental truths is the basis for the search, looking for signals generated by inteligence, that is, long narrowband signals, pulses or very short wide-band signals, and possibly in the future, anything that doesn't occour naturally, however for now, these are the most likely candidates i suppose the real answer to the question is, we don't really know not until we're in the situation anyway, they may have vastly different way of percieving the world than we do, so the methods we assume would work, may infact not work at all, for example they may not be sighted, which, i imagine, would make communicating in maths much harder after that it's just speculation, and should really go in the SETI science forum :) Want to search the BOINC Wiki, BOINCstats, or various BOINC forums from within firefox?
