It's too bad she won't live.

But maybe she will?

As will he.

Time to panic.

A new work fetch algorithm and CPU scheduler are both in testing.

Thanks JM7,
That really is a panic moment.

For those that feel the need to panic at the slightest sign of a problem, you might want to take a look at the present network traffic graph.
There appears to be a bit of a fit in progress.

Should we panic????

Anyone remember the last time we had a really good outage? Oh how I miss the "good ole days". I know the new people probably consider a day or two a good outage, but I'm talking GOOD outage. One that last weeks. Boy it sure was good for getting the posts on these boards active. This new Seti Enhanced has sure taken a big bite out of the fun.

Nope.
But for those so inclined any excuse will do, no matter how minor or insignificant.

I'm cleaning the garage to fit two new motorcycles in it... If I showed you the Garage, You would only laugh at my PANIC...

If I were to say something about Seti To Panic About it would be the "weekly outages" which slip by and most do not notice... Hmmmm There is something Seriously Wrong There! It has also been Mentioned about the Lack of a Serious Breakdown... No outages that take a week to fix...

This does not mention, that we were expected to Run Out of Workunits to Crunch before the MultiBeam data gets here... Hmmmm before Enhanced we were supposed to be out of something to Crunch around the end of June/July?

So is this Real Or Memorex (to borrow and old cliche)... did I just post this or do I have to look in my posting history to make sure I have not posted it previously?

I suspect Someone is Not Telling "US" Something!

The outage I really remember it the one at Predictor (4 months or so).

For ages I had 5 days cache, then I dropped it to 1, just recently I dropped it again to 1/2 day - Oh bugger!!! In the meantime I'm crunching on Einstein until Seti comes back, which I guess will be by Monday am at the latest. I feel sorry for the Seti guys actually, its probably not really their fault and they know from experience all the flaming they're going to get on the boards.

Many people have a savings account for a rainy day, and if the current account gets a bit negative they'll transfer some funds from the deposit account to tide them over, and pay it back later. Its a shame that Seti cant do something similar in that you have an emergency cache of workunits with say 3 or 4 month completion dates that would be automatically called upon in this sort of situation. Once they get close to their time-out date they're crunched as a normal unit and then replaced. I'm sure its technically possible.

However Seti is just one of many Boinc projects, and we all have the option to help out Boinc generally by crunching any project at any time. Its just unfortunate if your particular favourite project isn't available for a while.

Chris

Yeah I just reattached to Einstein too, As there wasn't anything here to do in Seti. Of course the tranferring the files from the old server to the new server caused the fiber channel drives in the old server to freak out, So It's the New server for sure as the old one looks like Its days are numbered quite possibly.

Panic mode???? Yeah, maybe, but it's much more fun when we don't know what, why, who, or when. Speculating is more than half the fun. Now they've actually told us what's happening and we're just left doing nothing but waiting. Where's the fun in that?

Wouldn't ya' think that mebbe they could put in a little OT this weekend and get it up and running before Monday? Or is it just file transfer time they are up against at this point?

I'm guessing from Matt's posts that they are working over the weekend -- and the files they're working with are just plain big.
