My computer crashed and now it shows no work units ready to run, even though there are (and were) plenty of them before the crash. Is there any way to get the client to "see" these workunits that are sitting right there on the hard drive? It seems Berkely won't let me download any more for some reason (last download too recent?). ![]() |

eeek, your clientstate.xml file got corrupted in the crash. It's probably already overwritten the .old / .prev copies and so is probably gone forever. I have run Nortons' disk doctor in the past and it's restored the missing/corrupted file, thereby saving my loss. try chkdsk/scandisk? If not, then I think you have no choice but to continue from here. Slightly good news is that this has been addressed in the later editions of the developmental clients and should be included with the upcoming release of 5.4.x. tony ![]() |

The same thing happened to me yesterday. I think I have discovered that it seems to be my Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security that was causing the problem. I've exclude it from being scanned by adding the BOINC folder to the "Exception" list and hope that helps. It was working at its worst with all the retrying during the outages. I reset the project and have been getting new work occasionally. It seems like if I go a long time with not getting any work, if I stop BOINC for a few minutes and start it back up and it starts checking at a different set of ten minute cycles that it has better luck. |

Thanks for the input. Definately doesn't have to do with hitting "update" too much, its been running overnight with no intervention on my part, and its still not getting any new work. Messages say HTML error. Don't think its server related because my other machines are crunching away just fine. Interesting comment about the anti-virus as the crash seems to have borked my AVG anti-virus as well. I'm not sure what the heck is going on w/ S@H, maybe I'll try a reset and see if it gets going again. ![]() |

Ok, post about the last 20 or so of your "messages" from the messages tab and we can take a look at them to see what may be happening. Start with a fresh download and then leave it to the BOINC client to it's job. It has worked for me sometimes. Good luck. :-) "I'm trying to maintain a shred of dignity in this world." - Me ![]() |

Seems to be working fine again now. Nothing that I did in particular, looked at it yesterday morning and it had fresh work and was once again crunching away. One of the other boxes crashed and lost track of its cached work too, but a chkdsk repaired the files because when rebooted after chkdsk /f all the work showed including the units that were in-process. ![]() |

Sometimes I have to nudge it to send a work unit thats *Ready to report* to get it to send it in by clicking the Update key. |

Sometimes I have to nudge it to send a work unit thats *Ready to report* to get it to send it in by clicking the Update key. A *Ready to Report* has already been sent and stored, the Report phase just tells the servers to move the result already received into the validation queue. Reporting does automatially occur eventually, but it's not assocated with the send. Actually, I am not sure just which events trigger an automatic report, but nearing the deadline is one. ![]() |

Actually, I am not sure just which events trigger an automatic report, but nearing the deadline is one.The BOINC Daemon reports completed work at the first of: 1) The next work request for a project. 2) 24 hours before the deadline. 3) Immediately if the work is completed later than 24 hours before the deadline. 4) Connect every X days after the work is completed. 5) With the next trickle (CPDN only at this point). 6) When the user clicks update.
