I assume since you've already read the Tech News you know what's going on.

And now you can go to the Boinc home page and connect to another project to keep your computer busy or you can wait for Berkeley to fix the problem.

I think there is already an automatic message being sent to your Boinc manager. "No new work from project"

Remember that Berkeley is in Pacific time zone. So they are -8(-7 DT)UTC. It is currently only 6:40AM there. Give them time to wake up, get coffee, breakfast, etc. If you notice, backups start at 18:00UTC, which is about 10AM there time.

You can have extra workunits on hand to get through times like this by going to "your account", "general preferences". Set the "Connect to network about every " setting to one or two days. That will download more workunits.

Dont you have any Cached? There are outages consistently.... for up to a day or two.... I have 10 days in cache, so until it gets close to empty, I certainly wont worry!

Yes, I am getting a "No New Work" message from the server.......

Yet another reminder that a .1 cache isn't good for primary SETI crunchers.

Happily crunching for the next 5-7 days here whatever.
Since BOINC went live, not one day have my caches not had SETI work.

It's going to be well into tonight...or maybe tomorrow before workunits will be widely available...Good advice from MikeSW17 about larger caches for those who crunch only SETI...A larger cache 3 days or more will usually get you through these kind of difficulties...

as for me and many others...we have other projects that we can crunch when there is no SETI work available...

Keep in mind the best time to increase your cache is before a shortage of workunits occurs...not immediately after a large outage.

PROUD TO BE TFFE!

You must have come close on the big outage last fall though. :-)

I just wish I could get my SAH crystal ball working better so I could predict more accurately when the best time to grab more in the cache is! LOL

As you pointed out, a backup project works to keep the CPUs hot in any event.

3/1/2006 10:23:50 AM|SETI@home|No work from project
3/1/2006 10:23:51 AM|SETI@home|Deferring communication with project for 10 minutes and 4 seconds

repeated for a while

Go to SETI ... and problem known. ok

my little glitch with my cache is that my computers think they will take 4.5 & 5.5 hours to do a WU, and they ask for an amount of work based upon that. Problem is they take well under an hour to do a WU, so my '5 day' caches only last ~15 hours. oh well

Everything will be back up when it's back up.

You are using Boinc 4.45.

Try upgrading your Boinc client to 5.2.13 when Berkeley is back up. Especially optimized clients by Cruncher or Trux. The new clients adjust the "time to completion" after working on a few WU's.

I should have said I also have backup projects as a backup to a 7 day cache. I share 99970 to SETI and 5 each to 6 other projects, I will never have idle machines, but will run SETI whenver there's work to do ;)
