Am I way out of the loop here? I just saw a teaser on the Sci-Fi Channel telling about an original series coming in March. Hot dang!

Gotta dig out the scarf and tune up the Tardis.

Can't wait!!

Maybe they'll use The Timelords' (aka KLF aka The JAMs [not The Jam]) "Doctorin' the Tardis" for the theme song.

Imagine Gary Glitter's "Rock 'n Roll Pt.II" but with this instead:

Dr. Whooooo - HEY! Dr. Who
Dr. Whooooo - HEY! The Tardis
Dr. Whooooo - HEY! Dr. Who
Dr. Whooooah - Dr. Who
Dr. Whooooah etc....

It's better with KLF-style beats but I give it a 91 'cause you can dance to it.

Dunno how to link audio else I'd do that. Don't have it digitally but I did find it in my collection of 12"ers from my DJ days.

Please tell me there's someone out there that groks my many aged references.

Jim

I assume when you refer to the original series, you mean the 1960s oringinal with Patric Trouton as Dr Who (the first incarnation of this Time Lord)?

All others are pretenders! I was a little kid in Holland and this was one of the only English language series. About the only others we had were "I Love Lucy", "Felix the Cat", "The Man From Washington" (aka "It Takes a Thief" with Robert Wagner) and some Bugs Bunny. Back in those days TV only came on after 6PM in many channels.

The first Dr Who was William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton was the second.

Some years back this was one of my favorite shows on PBS.
I was quite disappointed when they stopped airing it.

The original Dr. was played by William Hartnell... (Sean beat me to it!!)

As for the other actors who starred in the role, they can be found here

These links are for Jim.... and any other Fans of the series.

3 versions of the Dr. Who theme, probably dating from the 1970's onwards.

Version 1

Version 2

Version 3

The first is a clip, the last two are full versions.
Thanks for the links! Very cool.

The first one is the one I always think of. I imagine myself as a little kid sitting in front of the "tellie" - a massive 17"er - in our row house.

Has anyone heard the Timelords' version I referred to? Can't find a link for the life of me.

Looks like it's an airing of a BBC (with $$ from Canadian Public TV) series from 2005. Maybe Sci-Fi will find some backing and keep it going - that is, if it's not B-movie crap.

Anyone out there gotten a chance to see it? I'd love to read your views of it. Any potential for a legitimate regular series and not just a campy/nostalgic grab for dollars?

If its the series with Christopher Eccleston, I was very impressed, good production values, it has been 'updated' but still retains the flavour of the original. It also has a number of well known British actors in guest roles.

Give it a try, I think you'll like it!

If you go here and scroll down to the bottom, you can download a copy.
Bless you Keith. I hadn't heard that in way too long.

I remember the night I played it first (I think). I was the head DJ at a prime club in Minneapolis and I looked down at hundreds of heads all bopping up and down to this track. Sweaty regulars later asked me what the hell a Tardis was and how it was connected to Gary Glitter and who was the band. Ahh, the days of weed and roses...

Céro problemo.

Peers: These are other people also downloading the torrent but have not completed it, thus are sharing (uploading) only the parts they have completed, whilst still downloading other parts.

Seeds: These are other people who have finished downloading the torrent and therefore are sharing all of it to other people.
Note, without one or more seeds it is rare for the entire torrent to be availiable at that time. Therefore you may have to wait until a seed is availiable before completing.

Pieces: Each torrent groups the file(s) together then splits it all into small pieces, like splitting a book into pages. (Think of the chapters as the files.) Of a 300 page book, you may have downloaded pages 90-210, One peer {a} may have 1-130 and another peer {b} may have 180-300. Therefore you will download 1-89 from {a} and 211-300 from {b}. The others will download missing pieces from you and others as necessary.
Note. Each piece is further subdivided into blocks, these work the same way. (Think of them as words on the page.)

Hash: In this context, hashing is what happens at the end when Azureus has downloaded all the blocks and pieces and reasembles them into files. (Like printing the pages then glueing them into a book) Azureus does this to each file as soon as it is finished, other Bittorrent clients wait until they have the entire torrent before hashing, it works the same way.

Hope this helps :-)

Tracker -

A Tracker is an external script that monitors who has what of any particular torrent and tells clients asking about a torrent where they can get it. It is essential that a tracker can be contacted at least once so the clients knows where to look, however if the tracker becomes unavailiable the client stores a record of where the data was so it has something to refer to. If a tracker can be contacted all the time torrents finish faster as the best sources can be obtained sooner.

Rating is a user based facility, you can give a torrent a rating and comment about how fast it finished, what the quality is like etc. Personally i prefer to look at the comments on source websites as they tend to be more detailed.

Not sure exactly what you mean by sharing, the share ratio is how much of the file you have uploaded during the time it has been active. And file sharing is a general term for what we are doing.
