Message 221537 - Posted: 26 Dec 2005, 13:49:40 UTC

I have BOINC installed to replace the classic SETI and altho it seems to be processing WU's, it doesn't seem to be crediting them to my team ..SETI SCOTLAND. Also How can I download more WU's to work on. It seems to only download one batch which finishes in a day or less and I have to download more. Would like to have a larger cache of units to work on. I haven't found any instructions on up and/or downloading WU's for BOINC.

You'll find lots of instructions in the BOINC Wiki (link in my sig.).

Credit is not immediately given in BOINC as it was in Classic. Nor is it calculated in the same way. Read more in the BOINC Wiki - here.

To change the size of you cache, go to 'your account -> 'general preferences' and set a higher value in 'connect to network about...'. Don't make it too high, though. 10 days is not a very good idea: BOINC will more often fall into panic mode. I use 1 day for myself, heard that something between 1 and 3 days should do well.

You are not processing any results. You have no computers attached to the project.

Take a look here for some help.

I have installed the BOINC software.Account key has been entered. Account has been configured. Project has been attached. Acct info shows me attached to Scotland SETI. BOINC manager shows total credits of 571.19. Work shows 2 projects running. Account info from BOINC manager shows NO TEAM. Attempting to complete 'PROJECTS-ACCOUNT MANAGER was unsuccesful. Just says "failed to attach to account manager" So far I haven't found anyting in WIKI that gives me additional help or info. If one of you two who answered could communicate with be via E mail or IM perhaps I could work this out. Email...joliet421@yahoo.com or IM at dunchan1

Thanks for the come-back, Greybeard. I have my preferences now set at 5 amd still get only two projects to work on. These will complete today. To get new projects, I go to "projects" highlight my project and click on update. Sometimes I get more WU's .. sometimes not. Don't know if I'm doing this right or not.

What projects are you attached to? SETI is not one of them.

You need to join teams on EACH of the projects you are attached. Just joining on SETI does not push it across all the projects. In fact you can be on different teams on different projects.

Under BOINC "WORK", I have two projects .. both are attached to BOINC according to BOINC when I go into "attach project".

Cliff, P. Bear is right, your profile, above, shows no results for seti.
And if I click on computers, there are no entries in there.
Do you have another account?

When you look at your projects tab what do you see under the headings "project", "account", "team" and "total credit".

The way it is looking right now is that you have set up two accounts without realizing it. The account you are posting from has no computers attached and therefore no credit or workunits to process.

Cliff, to get it all clear:

A project is one of the scientific projects you can attach your BOINC to. there are about two dozens of them ATM, CPDN and Einstein belonging to the oldest and best known besides Seti.
In your above post you seem to be referring to work units, as you say these are showing in your 'work' tab.

Now, our fellows are right in pointing out that you have not yet attached to Seti. Go and look yourself under 'your account' -> 'view computers'. I'd be very astonished if you saw an attached computer there...

So let's get back to the beginning: You obviously did attach to a project, else you wouldn't be seeing any work in 'work' tab.
Just what projects then are shown in the 'projects' tab of your BOINC?

I show team as "none" If I have 2 accounts, how do I correct this and get back to where I need to be? I have uninstalled BOINC twice and started over twice and always with the same result. I need a SIMPLE step by step to get me into this I guess. At this point I do not know how to download WU's or to upload them other than via transfers. Guess this happens when you get old and slow.

At Cliff Yuill, Sr

What is your computer ID?

You can find this in the tab "Messages" in one of the very first messages.
It should look like

23/12/2005 21:12:10|SETI@home|Computer ID: 1963264; location: home; project prefs: default

If you can give us your computer ID we can try to bring you back to the account of it.

Okay, this computer is listed under an account with nick 'Cliff'.

You should then only use that account from now on, for log on to this website as well. There is no use in haveing more than one account.

This is the account data page for Your Account that you have your computer attached to. Now you have to make the decision as to which account you want to continue with. Either the account you have credits in or the account you linked your original SETI Classic account to.

If you want to keep the account you are using to post here (with your classic information) then detach from the project you are currently attached to in your BOINC manager. Next, attach to the project using the account information for the account you are using to post here.

I'm going to be off here for a bit .. this is my only phone line and I have to free it up for a bit. I guess what I really need is a good, simple, step by step to get me up and running. The instructions I've attempted to folow so far have left me totally confused. Certainly not as simple (at least for me) as the old "classic SETI. I'll check back here within the hour. 10:26 am MST

Hello Cliff,

This is the account details of that user.

What you should need to do is linking the Classic stats of the account Cliff Yuill, Sr with the one of the account of Cliff, user ID 8266757.

You can do this by using this form. In the upper part you will need to use the Classic e-mail address of Cliff Yuill, Sr and in the bottom part the details of the Cliff account and use the button "link to existing account".

Once that is done, the Classic stats will be linked to your other account, Cliff. You can then always change the name of that account.
