Message 220849 - Posted: 24 Dec 2005, 12:59:06 UTC

As of about 01 AM UTC last night , none of my computers are able to upload results or download new work. These machines are on different networks, service restarted, comp. rebooted, firewall off/on, nothing seems to help.

The scheduler seems to work fine, I can request new WU's but they also stuck in the transfer queue.

I Wonder, if anyone has the same problems.

BTW, happy holidays for all

300,000+ results ready to send according to the server status page, but I can't get one. 'No work from project' is what the scheduler keeps telling me.

Greetings,
Sander

funny thing is, I DO get new WU's to download. But they stuck in the transfer queue.

The results fail with;

I got a new WU 5 minutes ago.
By the way. I have switched to Boinc_5.2.13_P3_AthlonXP_SSE
It looks like it's two times faster.

BTW, Happy holidays everybody.

Server ststus looks good, and is being updated not stale info.
And the traffic graphs look pretty normal.

OT but, BOINC_5.2.13_P3 etc won't be faster or slower than anything. It's the science app that does the work. BOINC is only reporting a benchmark which may or may not have anything to do with processing times.

Whatever's wrong at the moment, I hope the Berkeley crew won't let it interfere with their personal X-mas plans. Everyone wants this project to run smoothly and crunch away, but I for one think someone's personal life is more important at times like these than sitting at a terminal solving problems that can wait a few days.

Greetings, and merry x-mas to all,
Sander

Looks like the server got 'kicked'. Look at the traffic graph now. :-)

I kicked the feeder this morning which wasn't caching as many results to send as it should. So is it working now?

As for my interrupting personal holiday plans.. No big deal. I don't celebrate Christmas - never have. So this is the time of year I get everything done (while seemingly everybody else in the US is clogging shopping malls or desperately trying to travel in traffic and crappy weather). I usually take extended time off in the spring/summer/fall.

Matt,

it took a few tries to get the WU but yes. I finally got one. Thanks for the speedy response :)
Merry Christmas :)

Nope.. For me, stil nill uploads or downloads, the transfer queue is getting longer & longer (Apprx. waiting 40 WUs to upload and some 40 to download). As I stated, in my previous posting, The computer gets scheduled, gets a WU do download but with I/O problem, on the server side, it backes off. This not a problem by a single machine, but rather on all machines.

Happy Holidays to you Matt, whether or not you do celebrate it.

there is a new cricket system available, instead of http://fragment1.berkeley.edu/~cricket/ it's now http://fragment1.berkeley.edu/newcricket/ the links for /~cricket/ have been updated thou
and the graphs for SETI can be found here

I was experiencing the "no new work" problem before, but now seem to be having issues up/down-loading work, keep getting "System I/O" errors, but then the network graphs do show an increase in traffic

Yep, getting WU the past 12 hours has been like trying to pull teeth from a Brahman Bull. Once you have tried it a few times you don't want to go near enough to try again.

One machine keeps going idle.
Takes about an hour and a half to get another one downloaded.
Does not take the machine that long to process a result, so its back to waiting.
Pressing buttons sure does not help, just causes the servers to wait longer.
Right now it has two that have been trying to download for almost an hour.
And it's 55% done with the one it finally got after an hour of trying.
