No matter if we practise a religion or not, and in case of practising, which religion it is, one thing is indisputable, the astronomical phenomenon Solstice is happening today! Today, December 21, 2005 at 18:35 UTC it's Solstice Time, Winter Solstice for the Northern Hemisphere and Summer Solstice for the Southern Hemisphere. It's the longest night and the longest day, depending on which Hemisphere, you are living on. So time to celebrate the midwinter and midsommer. And where I live, we celebrate the coming of the light! So Happy Solstice to everybody! Read more about why we have solstices and equinox': http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solstice "I'm trying to maintain a shred of dignity in this world." - Me |

You scando types chewing on reindeer again?Sliddy is not a reindeer. He's a pig. And a very special pig: in northern mythology, Slidrugtanni was a pig they had in Valhalla. Every night(?) they slaughtered, grilled and feasted on him, and every morning he got alive again. If I remember correct, it was a gift from the gods to the brave warriors who came to Valhalla. They also had mjoed mugs which refilled automaticly. |

Do tell! :-D "I'm trying to maintain a shred of dignity in this world." - Me |

Did they have the 72 virgin thing in Valhalla as well? Cancel that, they couldn't find that many virgins in all of Scandanavia! Account frozen... |

If they had a problem, it was almost certainly Loke behind it, but I don't remember how the story went... I have to look it up first in Heimskringla. (After xmas I think - too much to do before that!) :o) |

LOL No, we had to "import" virgins from the continent. Every chief with respect for himself had at least one Frille (lover, slave) - in addition to his wife. |

Yeah... sorry to say I'm born about 1,200 years too late for that... I've heard that the church burning tradition still was very much alive in there during the 90's. ;-) |
