What are they asking for when they ask for thr URL of the projects web site? I have tried a lot of address and it just says it's not that of a bionic-based project. Please help. I have been a member of seti@home for a long time with over 500 work units done

This is the reply given to another person earlier, which I assume works

try this:

Exit the boinc manager - file / exit
go to the boinc website, go to "your account", Log in, create a password, don't log out, remember password

open boinc, click "projects" then "attach to project", the enter the URL
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu
then pick "use existing account"
enter email and NEWLY created password

does this work?

copied from mmciastro (Tony)

One other word of warning make sure the are no spaces at the end of url it has been known to cause problems

NO, unfortunately it does not... :-(
Einstein@home was attached fine but Seti@home will definitively not...

They have released a new version of boinc to address these issues you can download 5.2.10 directly by clicking on this link.

Just install right over the top of the old one, you won't lose work

does this help?

Which BOINC version are you using? The earlier version of 5.2.8 has problems attaching to Seti. Please try the latest BOINC version 5.2.10:

# Changes since 5.2.9

* Win: Fixes a BOINC Manager connection issue when the manager is waiting on a firewall for the all clear. This generally happens after a reboot.

# Changes since 5.2.8

* Win: Fixes the 'connection failed' message when another program is using the BOINC communication port.

And thank you for your patience so far.

I have updated to version 5.2.10 and it is the same problem, with the account key the answer is "Account not found" or with the account password... The
answer is "Fail to attach"!!!

You do enter the right URL (including 'http://', don't you?
You also enter the mail addy which you registered in BOINC?
Then I think the problem lies at the 'password'.
Make sure all entries do not contain leading or trailing spaces and the password is written the same way as entered in preferences (upper/lowercase included).

Please go to the login form and click the small blue click here under the Account Key option. It will transport you here. Fill in your email address (the same you used to register with) and go check it.

The contents of the email ashould be like this:
Your SETI@home account information is:
Project URL: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu
Account Key: 012345678901234567890abcdef01234

User name: Username
E-mail: Your email address

Never post your account key anywhere visible, please. it's your personal identifier.

Okay, now open Boinc Manager, on the top bar menu go to Projects, Attach to project, then fill in in the Attach wizard, the URL to the project http://setiathome.berkeley.edu. Press OK or Enter.

Choose Use Existing Account. Fill in your email address and the 32 character account key you just received in the email. Make sure the key doesn't have any spaces in front or after. Press OK or Enter.

What is the message that the Attach wizard throws at you?

If it didn't work out, please go to Your Account and press Change password. Type in a new password twice. Press OK. Now stay on that page, go back to Boinc Manager, attach wizard. Fill in the correct URL, then press the option to use Existing Account again, fill in your email address and the same password you just set. Press OK or Enter.

What is the message that the Attach wizard throws at you here?
Will it now try to attach to Seti?

Make sure your firewall/router allows Boinc.exe to pass through on ports 80, 1043 and 31416.

I see no problems so far, it appears you've successfully attached to einstien. Is that "failed to attach" message what you're getting with seti?

Did you know that the developers have been fixing issues related to this for days and Boinc version 5.2.12 is available? If you click here the download will start immediately. You can install this right over the old one, no need to uninstall. try it, does it fix your issue?

what is the issue, can you describe it in detail?

THat missing key message is normal as it appears prior to the attachment which creates your "acccount_setiathome.berkeley.edu.xml file".

It appears that something is stopping your puter from communication with the seti servers.

there are two servers we talk to, their IP addresses are 66.28.250.125 (the u/l d/l server) and 128.32.18.173 (the scheduling server).

If you open a command prompt box (start, all programs, accessories, command prompt) and type in:

tracert 66.28.250.125
hit enter

does it successfully trace?

Also, type

tracert 128.32.18.173
hit enter

does that one succeed?
