Try frying the carrots in some honey which will caramelize nicely, then add the tofu and let stand over night. Then chuckem' into the stock. Yummy!

Thank you to everyone who gave advice on the soup. Apart from a minor burn and a small fire the soup was a success! I gave some to my neighbour and she said it was good (she is an actress, so I wouldn't know if she was lying).

Here is a picture. If you'd like to see a larger picture let me know. :-)

Mmmmm!!!! Plomeek soup.... >:-) (-:<

The Domino Effect

Hapless sparrow unspared after domino debacle

ASSOCIATED PRESS

November 15, 2005

A sparrow knocked over 23,000 dominoes in the Netherlands, nearly ruining a world record attempt before the bird was shot to death yesterday, the state news agency reported.

The unfortunate bird flew through an open window at an exposition center in the northern city of Leeuwarden where employees of television company Endemol NV have worked for weeks setting up more than 4 million dominoes in an attempt to break the official Guinness World Record for falling dominoes Friday night.

Only a system of 750 gaps in the chain prevented the bird from knocking most or all of the dominoes over ahead of schedule, "Domino Day" organizers were quoted as saying by the NOS news agency.

The bird was shot by an exterminator with an air rifle after it was cornered.

Plomeek Soup Recipe

    * 1 cup onion, finely chopped
    * 1 cup butter
    * 4 cups carrots, peeled and chopped
    * 5 cups celery, chopped
    * 4 cups chicken stock [NOTE: VULCANS PREFER VEGETABLE STOCK]
    * 1 teaspoon pepper
    * salt
    * [KIRK VERSION: 1/2 CUP HEAVY CREAM]

Melt 1/2 the butter in a saucepan and saute the onions over low heat until transparent. Add the remaining butter, melt, and add the carrots--cooking over low heat until browned, about 30 minutes. Add the celery and cook 10 more minutes on low heat. Pour in the stock, salt, and pepper, bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let soup simmer for about an hour.

When ready to serve, ladle into bowls--unless you want to try Captain Kirk's version. In that case, go ahead and stir in the cream. Much good it will do you. >:-) (-:<

Plomeek soup looks like baby food with the same consistancy....

BTW:
Plommek soup is tradtionally served with a spoonful
of sour cream on top; this is carefully swirled out
with a spoon to amke a spiral shape, representative of
the galaxy. The outline of the galaxy is then
emphasized with very finely chopped parsley. for less
festive occaisions

Never mind 4 million dominoes, what about the bird?

ASSOCIATED PRESS

November 19, 2005

A Dutch television show claimed to have knocked down a chain of more than 4.1 million dominoes yesterday and set a world record, but organizers conceded that the event was overshadowed by the earlier shooting of an errant sparrow.

The sparrow was killed Monday after it knocked down 23,000 dominoes.

The killing was seen by many as an overreaction and angered animal rights and bird protection groups.

It later emerged that the house sparrow, though common, is classified as an endangered species in the Netherlands. Its population has declined in the past 20 years to less than 1 million breeding pairs due to human encroachment.

Domino Day organizers said 4,155,476 dominoes successfully fell yesterday, bettering their own record of 3.9 million set last year and approved by Guinness World Records.

The show's creator, Robin Paul Weijers, referring to the dead bird, said the record generated "mixed emotion."

"We all feel terrible about what happened," he said.

More than 5,000 people signed a condolence register on a Web site set up to honor the bird, and Dutch media reported that the exterminator who shot the bird received death threats.

"I just wish we could channel all this energy that went into one dead sparrow into saving the species," said Hans Peeters, head of the Dutch Bird Protection agency, who appealed for calm.

I think that most people acting up on this dead sparrow would chase the poor critter with a newspaper untill it smashed its skull on a window if it happened to blunder into their house....
