Here are my temps:

AMD 2600+ (2.1Ghz) = 116F (46.7C) [12 WU/Day]
Dual Intel 450mhz's = 109F (43C) [4 WU/Day]

I really do not know what is too hot and if I need more cooling? They both run fine and multi-tasking is no problem while crunching!

Let me know your numbers or what you think,
Chad

How hot when crunching?

Dumb question. Most all my cpu's are resting, having been layed off by central command.

Hi Chad, If you're talking about the XP2600+, T'Bred, or even a Barton Core XP2600+..., the Max Die Temp, (CPU), is: 85C/185F! You're in 'Great shape!'

As far as your Dual Intel 450MHz, (P3's), go..., the Thermal Spec is even higher, (i.e. 90C/194F)! Not any problem here either!

Even running them, (your CPU's), at a 100%, 24/7 at 60C/140F, will not hurt them in any way!

Just make sure to keep your CPU's, (HSF/Heat sink Fins & Fan), your M/B, & all other Fans, inside your Box, Free from 'Dust Bunnies', (w/compressed Canned Air), approx every 3 Months or so, (depending on how dusty your environment is)! =) *approx a 10 Min task*
Hope this helps! =)

All are crunching and have been for hours(LHC and Predictor).

My AMD Sempron 2800+ tower is in an non air conditioned room. During a recent heat wave, my CPU temp got very close to my 70C(158F) limit. After watching this for a day or two, I got the bright idea to take the top cover off of my tower. My CPU temperature dropped 6 to 8C within 5 min. Now, whenever the temperature is expected to get above 35C(95F), I just go topless :). During "average" temperature days it normally runs between 55 to 62C with the top on.

Just crunching along with an old AMD K6-2 450 on Classic, and the Sempron doing SETI & Einstein on BOINC. Both computers run 24/7.

most recent cpus are designed to support temperatures up to 100°C ( afaik athlon-xps should run fine @ 90°C )

but: i really encourage you to buy some good cooling system; it cant be that good to run a system at such high temps :)

my systems/temperatures:
dagobert [p4@3.2ghz] : 45°C ( biiiig heatpipe + 120mm fan )
bolivar [tb@1.33ghz] : 50°C ( 120mm fan )
trophy [dual pII@.23ghz] : 20°C ( 2x 80mm fan )
hive [ath@.7mhz] : 30°C ( 2x 80mm fan )

btw, your temps are fine.

In general, the amd XPs can only run up to the mid 50's, before they start to through bad results.

So your 47 is good, as long as it doesn't get a lot hotter, on a hot day.

My P4 2.4 533 runs at 68-70, because I have the fan turned down for noise reduction. It does not throttle at all, and has been running solid like this for more than 2 years.

My amd-64, 3000, running at 2.8 Ghz, runs at 48-51. These can handle a lot more heat, than the XPs, before throwing bad results, from what I understand. And they scream!

Don
