My computer no longer works with the bonic software. It was working for a long time. I have a PC and a MAC. The Mac is still working but the PC software says gets disconnected on the bottom line. I have tried file and select computer. I changed computer names nothing seems to work.

I've got the same problem. Everything was running fine for ages,with any version. Then suddenly I get the "connection failed" error. At first intermittent, now everytime I start up Boinc.
Version 4.19 will work but 4.45, 4.72 etc. will not. Nothing has changed on my computer so I'm baffled as to the cause.
And yes, I've tried the file/select advice, nothing wrong with my firewall etc.

@Bruce

According to your PC results processed you are using boinc 4.13. This version is no longer supported and you will need to upgrade to the latest boinc version. You should have message saying that the core client is out of date as well. See here for details.

The first thing I did was to update the bonic software. It did not help. Same message as before.

Well, you've XP SP2. The SP2 update silently installed/activated the Windows Firewall. Check out your Control panel, go to Windows Firewall and add the executables C:\\Program Files\\BOINC\\boinc.exe and C:\\Program Files\\BOINC\\boincmgr.exe as exceptions (if installed in C:\\Program Files\\BOINC).

Or define valid outgoing ports: boinc.exe needs an open port 80, boincmgr.exe needs an open port 1043.

What happens if you type in the "select computer" "Host name": localhost
Read the News at the homepage
Have a look at the Technical News
Look if your question is not answered at the Boinc Wiki

Best greetings, Thierry

Try selecting with no name. Do it twice (sometimes my BOINC Manager does not connect at first attempt, but at the second).

I tried everything people have suggested. Nothing works. Glad my Mac is still ticking.

I now know it is not a hardware or router problem. I installed linux/x86 and it is going gangbusters on my PC. Go figure??? Wish I could get it to work in Windows XP.
