Since there are still lot of us using the plain old Dialup system it would be a nice thing to put this in core client's options. I've set the options to automatically dial when client needs internet connection. Because it often completes a workunit in the midle of the night, I selected that it automatically disconnects from the internet. It's OK until it finishes a workunit during the day and I decide to surf a bit when the client connects. So it gets really frustrating when it disconnects in the middle of surfing, and it's not practical to change online prefs every time. |

An idea for the developers might be a bit of code something along the lines of... create a new setting so that users can be asked if they want to disconnect if the computer is in use, if it's not in use then just follow the normal option (disconnect or not) so that when the computer is being used (during the day) it asks the user (if the option is set) but if it's not (at night) then it just disconnects (if that's the option that's been set) Lee |

The new version of the CC that is currently undergoing alpha testing only auto disconnects if BOINC opened the dial up connection. |

The new version of the CC that is currently undergoing alpha testing only auto disconnects if BOINC opened the dial up connection. 4.72 I think. It's the newest on the market. Look here, but beware! It's dev-stuff, only for testing, may ignite your desk. Gruesse vom Saenger For questions about Boinc look in the BOINC-Wiki |

The new version of the CC that is currently undergoing alpha testing only auto disconnects if BOINC opened the dial up connection. what if boinc opens the connection, and then you start browsing while it's open, because then you'll want it to stay open, and not close just becasuse boinc opened it, it's a good step in the right direction, and is more easilly implemented than my idea, but it doesn't give you very much in the way of control Want to search the BOINC Wiki, BOINCstats, or various BOINC forums from within firefox? Try the BOINC related Firefox Search Engines |

OK, installed 4.72 CC and I like the improvement. I know it's still beta, but: 1. When it connects, it's a very noticeable event for dialup users due to the modem speaker, so this is what I propose - you could implement it like this: -when it connects, does what it has to do, and then it shows up disconnect timer which can be set to e.g. 1 min. So if I want to stay surfing i just cancel the timer and continue to surf. 2. I noticed that in this version it doesn't selfupdate after the upload of output files. 3. In screensaver it doesn't connect to the net at all, just puts a lot of error messages in the message tab: 27.7.2005 0:46:56||Can't resolve hostname [lhcathome.cern.ch] valid name, no data record of requested type 27.7.2005 0:46:56|LHC@home|Couldn't start upload of wjun1C_v6s4hvnom_mqx__14__64.306_59.316__8_10__6__20_1_sixvf_boinc18745_2_0 27.7.2005 0:46:56|LHC@home|URL http://lhcathome.cern.ch/scheduler/file_upload_handler: can't resolve hostname 27.7.2005 0:46:56|LHC@home|Backing off 10 minutes and 10 seconds on upload of file wjun1C_v6s4hvnom_mqx__14__64.306_59.316__8_10__6__20_1_sixvf_boinc18745_2_0 27.7.2005 0:57:07||Can't resolve hostname [lhcathome.cern.ch] valid name, no data record of requested type 27.7.2005 0:57:07|LHC@home|Couldn't start upload of wjun1C_v6s4hvnom_mqx__14__64.306_59.316__8_10__6__20_1_sixvf_boinc18745_2_0 27.7.2005 0:57:07|LHC@home|URL http://lhcathome.cern.ch/scheduler/file_upload_handler: can't resolve hostname 27.7.2005 0:57:07|LHC@home|Backing off 19 minutes and 0 seconds on upload of file wjun1C_v6s4hvnom_mqx__14__64.306_59.316__8_10__6__20_1_sixvf_boinc18745_2_0 27.7.2005 1:16:08||Can't resolve hostname [lhcathome.cern.ch] valid name, no data record of requested type 27.7.2005 1:16:08|LHC@home|Couldn't start upload of wjun1C_v6s4hvnom_mqx__14__64.306_59.316__8_10__6__20_1_sixvf_boinc18745_2_0 27.7.2005 1:16:08|LHC@home|URL http://lhcathome.cern.ch/scheduler/file_upload_handler: can't resolve hostname 27.7.2005 1:16:08|LHC@home|Backing off 19 minutes and 32 seconds on upload of file wjun1C_v6s4hvnom_mqx__14__64.306_59.316__8_10__6__20_1_sixvf_boinc18745_2_0 it's just a part.
