Just made my donation.... Couldn't afford much (I donated $20 BTW), but every bit helps I guess. Imagine if every one of the approx. 200000 SETI BOINC users donated a buck or two... It's not clear if that will be $20 USD or $20 CAD, oh well... -Aardvark |

[quote][quote]I made a donation on July 19th and I don't have a star. Maybe it's for the most recent and future donations.... >:-| |-::-) CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? It's not clear if that will be $20 USD or $20 CAD, oh well... Since UCB is in the US, and they use a US credit card processor, it will be US, so it'll probably be closer to $24 CDN. My movie https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/502242 |

Isn't EVERYONE that crunches seti WU's donating to the project? As usual, you miss the point. Swooosh [sound of point flying over your head] EVERYTHING IYHO, is a bad thing.... By making a monitary donation to a cause we believe in, that's a bad thing, huh? >:-| |-: CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. For the record, I plan to go back at "star" people who donated before 9/1/2005 - it's just that we didn't have this system in place and confirming e-mail addresses, etc. is a bit difficult. But it'll happen. - Matt -- BOINC/SETI@home network/web/science/development person -- "Any idiot can have a good idea. What is hard is to do it." - Jeanne-Claude |

But it'll happen. So, how long after we make a donation does the star appear? Does it have to be verified by a real human first during business hrs? Just curious. I've actually been planning on making a donation for some time now but never seem to get around to it, I guess this was just the poke in the behind I needed. Keep it up SETI... I'd send you a truck load of servers if I could afford it. -Aardvark |

Should be fairly quick, i.e. less than an hour, unless there's some kind of problem (you enter in a different e-mail address, etc., - anything that requires human intervention to fix). - Matt So, how long after we make a donation does the star appear? Having a bunch of email addresses can cause problems. I did, in fact give a different address. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to be patient. -Aardvark |

My point is that we ara ALL donators here! If you don't get that, all I can do is quote another poster who said "Swooosh [sound of point flying over your head]" Anyone who posts in these forums has evidence in the left margin of computer time donations. The green stars differentiate between those who've donated time and those who've donated time and money. The system is hardly perfect as you pointed out with your $0.50 example... I see in the not-too-distant future color-coded stars for different levels of monetary donation, maybe gears for donated equipment, etc. It may come to a point of including color-coded hourglasses for time-on-project and a contest to see who can come up with the best geometric representation of a credit. No animals were harmed in the making of the above post... much. |

.... I DO consider those "Real donations" to the project!................ And, MY point is that a "real" donation comes from deep within ones pockets, no matter how much they can afford. NOT from what ones computer can do.... Any dolt can supply CPU cycles to the project. It takes someone who REALLY believes in the project to dig deep.... [quote]Here we can see the total donation and the number of donator month by month. Ok, I find that there is something wrong with that history. Many of us donated in July of this year and it [the history] shows 0 donations. I also made a donation late last year that shows 0 for the whole year. What's up with that? >:-/ \\-: GHz BOINC.Italy |

Heck.. I could donate $.50 to seti and get a green star. Why should that be more "important" than the 116,478 hours of classic time I've donated or the 37,000+ plus seti boinc credits (indicating donated computer time)?? I DO consider those "Real donations" to the project! My point is that we ara ALL donators here! If you don't get that, all I can do is quote another poster who said "Swooosh [sound of point flying over your head]" I think the green star thing (notice no quotes) is a bad thing. Speaking of donating computer power how much do you think a private super-computer company would charge me (hourly, monthy, whatever) if I hired them to process a science app for me 24/7? Now if the green star (no quotoes) was based on message board posts, seems you're about 4x mine! Careful now, you're sounding like certain born-again troll I know of. :) |

If you don't get that, all I can do is quote another poster who said "Swooosh [sound of point flying over your head]" No, the real point is that a star (no quotes) does NOT indicate a donation to the project. It indicates money donated, but not the true meaning of the progect - crunching time. What if... a $20 donation or 2000 credits got you a "star"? or $50 or 5000 credits git you a different star? Heck - a $20 donation is equal to less than 30 minutes of Dr Dave's time in take home pay! |

.... I DO consider those "Real donations" to the project!................ You think than someone crunching for the project as they can is less importantant than someone who makes a $0.50 donation? That's clearly what you are saying here! The Green star (no quotes) is meaningless in the goal of the project! |
