I see there has been a change to the forums. The issue is any forum you go to has the URL and tag: Message boards:. Even the "Questions & answers" section does. So when you click to it, it always shows the wrong set of forums under that.

I see why work was done, to shorten long titles, but there were a few mistakes.

Also they seem to load slower.

I'm having different problems with this new Fora format. I have to user the IE bar to scroll about 20 or 30 pages to the right just to view the "reply to this thread" link,
and also have to use the IE scroll to finish reading most posts. In addition, I also have to use the scroll bar within the post also to scroll to the right.

I can probably live with the scrolling vertically within a post, but the horizontal scrolling has to go.

I find the Blue bar interesting (I'll probably get used to it)
I like the stats in the left field.

I agree with you Tony, at first I thought it was just my pc, but this horizontal scrolling is very annoying!

Cheers

If you notice one thing: Posts that have a little dot after the message have the rulers -
both horizontal and vertical rulers. I'm guessing this only happens with IE

The dot appears above the sigs

I have not seen any of the problems you folks are talking about, so i must assume they are somehow related to sigs. I have my preferences set not to display sigs, and the board looks just like it always has.

...and i do like our stats listed over to the left.

Nice Job :)

Digger:

Are you using IE?

Anyway, take a look at this and this
to see how some of us experience the forums atm.

Notice, the bottom horizontal ruler is so wide,
I can't drag it unless I drag it too much,
which means I have to use to buttons at the ends to scroll

Yikes! I see what you mean!

I'm using IE 6.0 and am not experiencing any of that. But like I said, I don't display any sigs since i'm on dial-up. Maybe turn yours off until the problem gets fixed, and see if it goes away.

Ok, that made a huge difference, hiding the sigs. Not really what I want, but for now I'll settle with this ;)

Well, at least Rob will know where the problem lies when he gets time to fix it. I personally kinda like not displaying signatures. Since I can't see anyone's banners, everyone here is equal in my eyes. :)

Thanks for picking up on that, and the reminder about the display options.

I can feel my BP dropping already! :)

Well, that is quite odd what you guys are seeing.

Can you who are seeing problems post your Windows and IE versions for me? I wonder if perhaps you're running an old version?

Essentially all that was done was the Author column items were wrapped in a fixed-width div with overflow: hidden and the Message column items were wrapped in a non-fixed-width div with overflow: auto (which means overflow scrolls) - and then the table item itself was set to width: 100% both in the CSS and in the HTML.

It should *never* be wide.

I'm using IE 6.0 Rob... and the horizontal scroll bar that appears is several hundred pages wide, at least. Operating system = Windows XP Home SP2.

If you 'hide signatures' in forum preferences, the problem disappears.

Same versions here. Haven't played about with the sig settings though it would
probably solve the problem.

Tell me, is it intended that each individual post has scroll bars (both vert
and horiz)?

Not unless the post has a wide image or a very wide unbreaking word... before, that would stretch the whole thread out, now it'll only put scroll bars in the individual post.

I'll post a more detailed explenation when I get back from class and ask for ideas from y'all on how we might solve the issues.

The issue at heart is essentially IE's unwillingness to render things sanely. If you go grab a sane browser you'll find the forums look quite nice. :-)

Alternatives then:
Mozilla Suite, browser, email client, HTML editor, IRC client in one.
Avant Browser, based on IE but with more security.
Maxthon Browser, based on IE but with more security.
Opera, only free if you take the one with the ads.

And there's probably more out there that'll work in Windows. :)

I noticed the horizontal scroll on my sons machine about 07:00 UTC this morning but didn't persue it further. The problem is still there, using IE ver 6, so I thought I'd look with this machine. His OS is Win XP Home.

The message board is perfectly ok using Firefox V 1.0.4 the blue bars are not there but the original text is tabbed in.

On IE Ver 6.0.2900.2180 SP2 the blue bars are there but so is scrolling in each message Vert and Horiz. (not Good)

The OS is winXP Pro SP2.

I'm having the same problem with SlimBrowser which is also IE based. IE still has 80% usage. I find it very strange the browser is blamed for a problems caused by the programmer not checking the results with the most common software.

Same problem here using Win XP Pro SP2 with Avant Browser.

Also, all the forums are linked to the message boards when opened: once Windows, Unix/Linux, Macintosh, General issues,
Getting started, Preferences, Wish list and Web site forums are opened they do belong to the Message Boards and not to Questions
and answers boards.

Another thing is when posting a message, once posted it appears as being a new post for yourselve.

For info: I used the break tag in this message or I would see my post as one line.
